Mantis Print ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Art For Sale, by buffin on Aug 2, 2007 0:00:00 GMT 1, Disappointed to miss out on this one but no sour grapes from me. Found was great, really enjoyed the preview night and it was great to get a SBFO print the following week. Well worth a couple of days off work, rail fares etc etc. Congrats to Leonard Street Gallery and Campbarbara for a job well done.

Mantis Print ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Art For Sale, by snakes on Aug 2, 2007 6:40:58 GMT 1, I was told by the camp barbara bloke to ring the gallery this morning. Did. All gone. the c**t.
Have heard nothing but good things about Frankie from the 'CampBarbara' and all my dealing to date have been good too.
If the gallery decide to sell / distribute the remaining prints and dont inform Frankie, does that make him at fault?
Top bloke IMO and maybe you should think twice b4 c**ting someone off.

Mantis Print ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Art For Sale, by snakes on Aug 2, 2007 6:51:45 GMT 1, Ps. Frankie has just been behind one of the best shows that i have ever been to (FOUND) and he has been the driving force behind a number of fantastic prints that have been made available to the public (us) at an affordable price too. Had these prints been released via POW etc most of us would still be empty handed or would have had to pay in the region of ยฃ300+. So lets quit bitching, enjoy life and hope for a bit more sunshine this summer!

I dipped out on Evolution, but don't bear Frankie any grudge. He's done myself and plenty of others a few favours this year already. So Merson, you're wrong, he's not a c*nt by any stretch.

Cannot believe he has only 8 respects considering his great contributions and generosity.

Point was going well until you started bitching about POW.. newcomers from the streetart scene as well as some of the worlds most famous to POW's roster are usually very very affordable. So yeah, lets quit bitching

I don't think you realise how small an operation Campbarbara is. If Frankie replied to every email, he'd get nothing done. Try phoning him next time. The number is on the website.

Mantis Print ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Art For Sale, by Harveyn on Aug 2, 2007 8:46:33 GMT 1, Being based in Ireland I have not been able to make Found at all. I have emailed Frankie on numerous occasions to beg, steal or borrow AFD, SBFO and Evo. Every time he answered my email with a polite response, no.
Yesterday he managed to get me a piece from a gallery with great discount. He went out of his way to get me images and drive the piece back to the gallery to allow me to do the transaction. I would never have got the same deal with the gallery and I doubt he made a penny out of the deal. Even if he got a small commission it would not have covered his efforts. Even if he got a large commission it was worth every penny. With this type of attitude Campbarbara will be a roaring success!!!
I run my own engineering business and if I could get my staff to offer this type of customer service every time they dealt with my customers I would be retired at 40 ;D ;D ;D
+ from me thanks Frankie

Mantis Print ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Art For Sale, by finsburyparkranger on Aug 2, 2007 8:51:54 GMT 1, Yep all things in all it was a bloody good show and a banquet of prints. The last Mantis prints did move before you could see them and that must be disappointing to people that failed to get one. I think there was an effort to counter the people who know nothing about this art but want to make a quick buck cashing in and bringing the whole office down, which meant an element of smoke and mirrors. The challenge is how do you make something that is inherently exclusive, more inclusive to genuine fans ?

Mantis Print ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Art For Sale, by scavos on Aug 2, 2007 9:21:23 GMT 1, Just to say +1 from me to Frankie and the team at CB & LSG. Frankie is a man of his word and a pleasure to deal with. I know how frustrating and disappointing it is to miss out on a print you would love to have (e.g every Banksy, SBFO 40 by a minute, City Girl 150 by half an hour) but I really cannot understand any criticism of a guy who has organised what is widely reported to be the best show many have ever been to, brought together some of the most talented artists around at present, sold limited edition prints at prices clearly well below the current market value and been a decent person whilst doing it. Not to mention all that free alcohol that I am still recovering from at the opening night.

*Just to redress the balance a little.
You can't understand criticism ?.. Ok, well consider this, CB and TLSG's prices for originals are way over the top for pretty much every artist in the show, perhaps 3 and to 5 times the rate for work you could have got the day before if you had the nouse to look further than your nose and these boards. If you want examples I can give them.
Their prices for prints are kinda normal by inflated UK standards but by no means cheap. They cost less than a fiver each to make and are generally used as a vehicle to inflate the prices of originals.
CB and TLSG are businesses with one goal, to make money from fans of Urban Art. Yes, they're nice to their customers (I'd say clever), would be pretty odd business practice if not. Both have a decade and more of experience in sales, they are trained to sell "stuff" to you.
Those new to this scene might very well think "found" was a decent show. Cool. But trust me, it by no means sets any standards for this "scene". Sticking "off cuts" and bits of cardboard that'd otherwise be left on the studio floor in fancy exploding frames and flogging them for 2k + is perhaps not the best way for newer members of these boards to be introduced to urban art and the culture surrounding it. In fact, it's probably the worst.
Let's accept it for what it is hey, but please stop gloryfying the commercialisation of this scene.

Mantis Print ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Art For Sale, by corblimeylimey on Aug 2, 2007 10:52:52 GMT 1, People want to buy the art though, don't they nu? it's all very well enjoying it in the street but art has always been sold and always will, if it weren't for dealers selling it it would be pulled off the street (which we're all against).
Sure the gallery and CB make money from it, it is business as you say, if anyone is able to deal with an artist direct there will usually be savings to make but that's not always possible.
Also CB has done a lot for the like's of Cyclops, who really wasn't getting anywhere selling his own stuff, along comes CB with the promotion and therefore the sales, people don't buy what they don't want, but sometimes people are unaware what they do want because they didn't know it existed.
All the prints sold for ยฃ125 which although not very cheap, are no where near expensive either, even POW regularly charge over ยฃ200 now, and bearing in mind the ยฃ400 - ยฃ700 prices some of these CB prints are reaching on ebay, exploitation could have been much worse.

Mantis Print ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Art For Sale, by pezlow on Aug 2, 2007 11:21:34 GMT 1, I have to agree with most of the comments made by Nu. I'm not trying to criticise TLSG or CB for the prices they charged - after all they are a business and there to make money.
But the prices were extremely high. 5 grand plus VAT for original beejoir , ยฃ450 plus VAT for a small chris stain original that chris charges half that price for. ยฃ750 for the AMP Kwan canvases.
This urban art phenomena is getting rapidly out of control. Do you spend 5 grand for a beejoir original or the same amount on a print by say Francis Bacon?? No disrespect to Beejoir (who after all doesn't have full control over prices) but I know what I would rather do.
People need to stop, sit back and think about things a bit otherwise this really is going to end in tears.
