Advice for framing Murakami foil print, by anarquee on Feb 14, 2011 15:59:13 GMT 1, Hi! I just bought a print of the Flowers series by Takashi Murakami. Print size is 64x89 cm. Offset print on foil. Cannot show any picture 'cos its arriving in march. As many of Murakami prints are on foil i'm guessing if anyone has an example to show and an advice to give for framing. Thnks!

Pic tomorrow if I take time to hang it tonight
Otherwise, you can always use the "Design Online!" from www.eframe.co.uk

Advice for framing Murakami foil print, by sal on May 9, 2011 23:56:46 GMT 1, hey guys, planning to frame my Murakami soon, and was just wondering what would be acceptable way to mount the print to the back mat board (Im sorry, but with english being my 2nd language, Im still quite confused with the right terms)..
I like how yours is done thebigboss, so could you tell me what did you use to "tape" the print, and do you think a float mount using rice paper hinges would work on foil prints?!..
thanks guys!

Advice for framing Murakami foil print, by Deleted on May 10, 2011 9:52:59 GMT 1, Well, foil is only on the front side, backside is a standard giclee print (boring term for standard poster paper).
So I used Lineco Abaca.sa Paper Hinging Tape (150') urbanartassociation.com/index.cgi?board=framing&action=display&thread=59279
It seems this tape is made for giclee print.
"Abaca.sa Self-Adhesive Hinging Tape incorporates the strength and supple nature of Abaca paper (manila hemp), along with a very strong acrylic adhesive that is permanent and non-yellowing. Gummed tapes are risky to use with Giclee inkjet prints because of their water sensitivity. In these cases a self-adhesive tape is a much safer alternative. Abaca.sa is strong enough to hold large digital prints, and supple enough to adhere to the print without distorting. Abaca paper is acid-free, biodegradable, and comes from a self sustainable plant."
But then, I am not a framing expert and bought tape myself because framers in Kenya are not professional (most of them are using masking tape)l. If you are living in Europe, then you can simply ask your framer which kind of tape he has in stock; I think rice paper tape should do the work too.
Glad you like mine !!

Advice for framing Murakami foil print, by sal on May 10, 2011 10:05:38 GMT 1, hey boss, thanks for your reply..
well, I do live in Europe, but Croatia.. which doesn't make it that much different than Kenya actually .. let me just tell you that I couldn't find museum glass here, and none of the framers even heard of the term "acid free mat"... so I guess if I ask them about tape it's gonna be masking tape all the way..
guess I'll go your way about this..

Advice for framing Murakami foil print, by anarquee on May 10, 2011 10:06:56 GMT 1, Haven't framed mine yet, thanks for the advice big boss! i usually ask the framer to use mylar cornes and avoid any tape to keep the print like new. In this case I'm considering using tape as the paper is fully printed.

Advice for framing Murakami foil print, by sal on May 10, 2011 11:25:43 GMT 1, Reflex gallery in Amsterdam has few Murakami prints that are mounted on an aluminum board (permanently), that is than float mounted.. I asked how the mounting on that board was done, but the lady told me it's something their framer is doing but wouldn't share his secret... must say it looks really nice, but Im not sure if I'd like my print permanently mounted on a board!?..
(foto found on the Internet)

just remembered I owe the thread a photo..
Not floated, just spaced. Technically you lose 2mm of the edge but I like it. Edit , my daughter has the same scooter as yours Tommy

You ALWAYS want the hinges to be the weakest part so if the worst happens and the frame comes off the wall, the hinges will tear and not the artwork

Yep, straight to source gallery... Baltic in UK, Perrotin in Paris and Kaikai's galleries in Japan. For mine, bought it via bank transfer to Perrotin - it was 500 euros during the show and 650 after show - and went to pick it in Paris 7 months later !! It was safely put aside for me. Tubed it and took the plane the next day.
Otherwise, try to look in this forum or use Google Alert or Ebay Alert.
Rsyok - The same one !! It always amazes me to see that same stuff (especially toys) is sold everywhere in the world ! Well, kids had fun with it for a week Taking the opportunity to thank you for all the nice PMs you sent me in Dec. 2009 to get a Murakami. As you can see your efforts have been fructuous. Thanks
