with all due respect i would not believe a single BIN sale on ebay - far too easy to manipulate, unless it's a traditional auction i'd disregard it completely.

With all due respect Colin 'you are wrong'! I don't post too often on here anymore but someone asked a genuine question and I have answered them with genuine information, that I know is 100% correct!

NOLA Going Rate, by cpo on Feb 20, 2011 0:29:55 GMT 1, I have had no shortage of offers for mine in the last few weeks/months. $6000 was the most, $5000 was the least. I have had offers of the buyer flying to me to pick it up, and I have had an offer for $5000 plus $250 for international shipping (I won't ship it sight un-seen, and frankly I don't have it back in my possession yet as I moved back to the States recently...
I hope it arrives okay!

NOLA Going Rate, by cpo on Feb 20, 2011 0:34:32 GMT 1, with that being said, I believe the two ebay sales from the urbanartgallery are BS (no proof of that, but really no proof they were legit either...it's my opinion that they were horseshit).. the last sale of 5kGBP I can believe, but wow, that's pretty steep ($8100)

sorry - didn't meant to question yourself or this auction, i'm sure everything is above board.
my point is that it only takes one optimistic seller with a high BIN and a desperate buyer with money to burn and you have yourself a bubble - i've seen it before and i'm seeing it again now. i would only read in to traditional auction prices on eBay and nothing else, regardless of them being genuine or not as they are not indicative of market value.
yes you could get the same desperate buyer with money to burn just gazumping every bid in order to secure the piece but the pattern is easy enough to follow. what of shill bidding you might ask? of course this goes on and there is little you can do but to be vigilant and keep an eye on the bidding pattern but the more people involved in trying to buy, the more attention there is and therefore any bad practice is easier to pick up on.
mark my words, we are at the very top of the print value arc once again and that's not to say prices won't go any higher but it significantly suggests that a correction must also follow. if you're buying at the top then be prepared for what might come, that way you'll not be disappointed.

NOLA Going Rate, by colinfishwick on Feb 20, 2011 18:16:20 GMT 1, Captain Condescending strikes again!
OK Brains, it pays to remember that there is always a new wave of collectors to these boards and that many of them are lurkers (much like yourself it would seem) so it doesn't do any harm to make a post from time to time to highlight the boom and bust nature of this highly manipulated market - often the only objectors are those with a vested interest in skewing things their way............
