Banksy • Barcode Print, by BME on Apr 30, 2007 18:54:50 GMT 1, Its an amazing price. There hasn't been a signed barcode on ebay for a while so that's probably helped the price but still... With many of the new prints nudging 4k maybe the older and less frequently listed prints are due for a rise? Makes no difference to me- well outta my league!

Banksy • Barcode Print, by RBK on Apr 30, 2007 19:03:14 GMT 1, One of the best Banksy images period - plus they don't come up for sale that often. It would sell for 8-10K GBP in a gallery, so I'm not that surprised. Wonder what it will end up at in 2 hours...

Bugger it I'm going to sell some signed Banksy's in June, I just can't warrant something on my walls being worth more than my house!

Banksy • Barcode Print, by RBK on Apr 30, 2007 20:00:42 GMT 1, Chrisso - I'd buy your signed Gangsta Rat if the price was right.
Thank you for the compliments Lesroy - depending on where this auction ends up, and if the sale is actually deemed legit, I may have to be adjusting my insurance!
I know some forum members scoff at this - but I wonder how many of the earlier prints are not in 'salable' condition. I bet the number of actual older prints in top condition is a lot less than the actual editions. Sure they got blu-tacked, pined, etc. when they were cheap and hanging in dorm rooms. Anyone else's thoughts?

Yep, a guy I know had a rude copper pinned to the kitchen door a couple of years back - was a state last time I saw it... I'm pretty sure it was signed too

Jesus Bejoir, thats dedication. I can't imagine many here in the UK would hold on to their Banksy's if it could buy a house ! Top marks for loyalty.

Banksy • Barcode Print, by bond on May 1, 2007 8:50:00 GMT 1, Hi all
it certainly looks as though the prices for signed pieces are rising all the time. The gap between unsigned and signed is getting all the more wider.
The older pieces are just amazing , and even the more recent prints such as applause and grannies are now easily touching £ 4 k and £ 3 > £3.5k respectively .
Grin was fetching £ 2.2 about 6 weeks ago and that is now looking cheap .
Where will it end !!!

Banksy • Barcode Print, by adrscib on May 1, 2007 9:32:57 GMT 1, bond... i say prices will keep rising as long as the artist is in demand... i have never seen so much "liquidity" for this artist in the art world.... ppl are hungry for Banksy!
in my opinion by the next auction of the sothebys in june... and his exhibition in august (vs warhol) he is set to continue to rise.... i expect prices to double (just my opinion) i mean ppl before were selling banksies to buy other banksies but now there is no chance to buy as prices are prohibitive..
anyway its a game of demand and supply.... and right now demand is 10-100 times supply thats why prices keep rising... plain economics laws.
cheers

Banksy • Barcode Print, by bond on May 1, 2007 9:36:35 GMT 1, your probably right , the last yr has seen unbelievable rises in banksy work . Each time they seem to have peeked - up they go again.
Shame that unless you were fortunate enough to be in at the start most people getting into Banksy now will have little chance of getting a print unless they are lucky enough to win the POW lottery or pay through the odds on the bay.

Banksy • Barcode Print, by adrscib on May 1, 2007 10:21:40 GMT 1, the ppl who will kick their own ass are those that probably bought say 5 prints and sold them for a "good profit" at that time... they will be kicking themselves.... my question now... this looks like the tulip bubble mania... will it ever burst & when will it burst?? many speculators have come in for banksys work so i believe that in a couple of months his prices will be artificiallly very high .... and no longer affordable... so eventually they will have to go down to meet demand ... but when is this gonna happen? everytime we speak about prices going down, they do the opposite and go up again... as i speak the barcode is already at 5.6k!

Banksy • Barcode Print, by beejoir1 on May 1, 2007 11:22:26 GMT 1, When people have invested hundreds of thousands of pounds on one canvas, and prints are hitting tens of thousands, bubbles don't burst too easily, just have a look back to threads a year ago about the same subject, people were saying it would burst then!

Banksy • Barcode Print, by dwight on May 2, 2007 0:28:39 GMT 1, Although I don't predict a drop anytime soon, I will say that as Banksy prices rise to the 5 and 10k marks for prints, Banksy starts to compete with other artists in that range. People who are considering spending 5-10k on a Banksy are likely also considering hirst, warhol, miro and others...

Banksy • Barcode Print, by chrisps303 on May 2, 2007 17:58:51 GMT 1, Do you think that if the signed banksy prices keep rising this may cause most people to only be able to afford unsigned thus driving the prices of the unsigned prints up? I personally hope not or i wont be able to even afford an unsigned print.
