Banksy • Barcode Print, by stuey09 on Jun 21, 2007 17:32:56 GMT 1, why does the image HAVE to have a meaning?
This post made me shiver. Sounds like an exam question. Discuss.

man, that is probably the biggest appeal to me. Not that each image has a specific meaning but the fact that Banksy's work makes you think. The emotional quality his work represents is second to none... at least to me anyway. Looking at his imagery is kinda like watching the movie The Six Sense. Each time you view it, you see something slightly different.

Sorry Stuey, didn't mean to mentally transport you back to school there!
I've thought about buying Napalm a few times, particularly when they were floating round a few months ago at the £750 mark. But after travelling through Vietnam and reading the book 'The Girl In The Picture' I just couldn't quite stomach seeing it every day.
I understand what the picture is saying, but I just can't handle the fact that people could be looking at it in total naivety of what Kim Phuc went through. Or maybe I just couldn't stand seeing Ronald McDonald every day! Mickey's OK, I don't mind him so much.
Thats why for me, Barcode is my favourite Banksy, as whatever its socio-political message might be, its not immediately obvious. Plus I'm an animal lover and I like the big space on the right hand side !!

Banksy • Barcode Print, by jam on Jun 22, 2007 10:43:53 GMT 1, I would choose barcode as a print over napalm any day. It is in the top 2 of my wish list as far as Banksy prints I want to own.
That being said however... I think that the scale of the original Napalm canvas that Hirst owns, makes that piece much more significant. I would imagine it has even more of an impact in person.

Still not one I would really want on my wall though, for the very reasons you suggest. Its well in your face

Banksy • Barcode Print, by a4mnt on Jun 18, 2007 15:23:42 GMT 1, Barcode is usually going for around £1400 - £1550 recently on ebay.
I doesn't matter if you start low on the bidding, it will easily get up to the right price.

Banksy • Barcode Print, by a4mnt on Jun 18, 2007 16:30:24 GMT 1, That one was originally on for £2500 and had no takers. then it relisted and seemed that it had sold for £1850. I'm sure it did, but i would imagine this is due to someone contacting the seller and making an offer as there was no best offer button on the original £2500 sale.
I'd say that £1850 was an anomally due to an extremely desperate buyer, but you never know.
£1400-1500 is still a really good price for this. What was original cost price? £89? Whats that...a 1600% increase. Damn.

Banksy • Barcode Print, by dgb133 on Jun 19, 2007 15:40:26 GMT 1, I don't get the big attraction to barcode myself. The idea of a barcode as a jail bars seems played out. Visually it's just ok I think. I just can't get why that print sells for so much more than others? Maybe I'm missing something?

Banksy • Barcode Print, by a4mnt on Jun 19, 2007 16:07:28 GMT 1, I think barcode is a lot less obvious politically (admittedly I'm not aware of the political meesage at all, but i'm sure there is one?).
not everyone wants bombs, guns, military paraphenalia and general anti establishment aimed images on their walls.
as far as i can see, it doesn't deliver a negative message, so maybe this makes it appeal a little more wide ranging.
£1850 is a fair price but i'd be surprised to see it make that jump of £400 or so that quickly.
fingers crossed though for misterframeman.

Banksy • Barcode Print, by artforartssake on Nov 23, 2006 12:34:13 GMT 1, Hi there, looking for a bit of advice on my signed barcode. I think it has become too valuable for me to justify holding on too. Saw a signed one go on ebay for 4K a while ago (apparantly finalised at 3.5K) and then noticed someone got their hand bitten off when they put one up at 2.5K BIN. What I'm looking to do is to swap it for an unsigned with a cash make up. Anyone want to upgrade? and any advice on values?

It seems like it was only the other day I sniffed at a signed barcode for £150 thinking that it didn't look quite right stuffed in the bottom left corner like that.
AAArrrrggghghhhghghhhh !!!!!!!
I wonder if this means the market is happy to pay roughly this price for all 2004 signed prints?
