Anyone can sit there and have ideas, it's the execution that separates an artist from a fantasist (like me). It's insulting to find out that a so called respected artist is so far up his/her own arse that they can't even be bothered to do their own work. I'm not sure what made this an acceptable practice but to me it's wrong on many levels. (rant over  ) with all due respect Warmgun, you work in the building trade yeah? well, has anyone ever heard of a famous electrician? plumber? what about a highly skilled stone mason? nope. have you heard of Lord Foster? Frank Gehry? Herzog and De Meuron? this is the point, you train enough monkeys (no disrespect to the OP, or yourself) and they can do a job for you but only the very best conceptualists can envisage such defining work, both in terms of Architecture and Art and anything else creative for that matter. Thats a very funny way of justifying it I guess.
So if some guy pays an artist to paint their pet dog or cow or wife or race horse etc. The guy that had the idea of having his pet pooch painted is the artist not the artist they paid.
There is a difference between art as in the visual arts of painting and sculpture where the person working the paint or the clay etc has a link between their own original thought the material and their hands creating the art.
People like Koons and Hirst who have been accused of plagiarism and who pay other people to make the objects or paintings are promoting themselves. The object made is just a means to an end.
Some can say that people who use images of celebrities and famous people in art attract buyers because the image used is allready famous.
Architecture is not art BTW.
