Banksy 2002 Existencilism show card, signed. Real?, by Deleted on Mar 24, 2011 5:20:52 GMT 1, Hello, first post.
I thought this was cool--2002 show in Osaka--and bid $25 on it, just in case.
The 'BAN' and maybe the 'Y' in the signature looked alright. The 'KS' and the big swirling flourish under the name look suspect and crazy--never seen any Banksy sig like that before. But these were early days, so who knows?
I have never seen how Banksy inscribes works so have no idea how that should look.
This auction ended. I did not sell it, did not win it, I may never see it again.
But, like that poor bastard in Dirty Harry..."I gots to know."
Any informed people on this forum think the signature on the card is real?
Thanks.

Banksy 2002 Existencilism show card, signed. Real?, by craigf on Mar 24, 2011 8:56:29 GMT 1, I would probably pay something like $25 for the showcard as they are rare. Who knows as to whether the signature is genuine or not

Banksy 2002 Existencilism show card, signed. Real?, by jakek on Mar 24, 2011 10:18:05 GMT 1, That's definately an interesting item - always good to see the old flyers.
I remember seeing photos of a Banksy canvas from around that time with a dedication on the stretcher - which might be a could one to compare with.
I've had a quick google and found that it was a Lenin vanvas from 2003 but i can't find the photos. Maybe someone here can help...

Banksy 2002 Existencilism show card, signed. Real?, by BME on Mar 24, 2011 12:25:32 GMT 1, Hard to know- the signature is ridiculously overworked, but the individual letter look okay to me. I think this might be real- not that you would ever get it authenticated.

End of a long day, a few beers inside you, a tired signature. Can't see any reason why someone else would sign this early in his career - if it was signed at the time, and not at a later date. The flyer is more interesting with the signature a side issue.
But as said, it'll never be authenticated.

Banksy 2002 Existencilism show card, signed. Real?, by Deleted on Mar 27, 2011 2:16:09 GMT 1, Thanks everyone...confirms my gut feeling that this was indeed real. The seller's history, other items, account of the show, etc., all good.
Regret not getting it...have love for both the card and it being signed. Just didn't have the $800 worth of love that someone else had!
Early / important signed Warhol show cards go for a few thousand dollars (saw a Mao in a completed auction online the other day.)
True, it may never get authenticated by Pest Control, Laz, etc., but as Banksy remains an important artist, I think that in years to come top-flight 3rd party outfits like PSA/DNA will authenticate his signature, as they do Warhol and others.
That will be good enough for many potential buyers down the line IMO.
