General art/toy related charities, by sal on Apr 6, 2011 16:05:46 GMT 1, after getting positive feedback on "Art/toy related fundraising for Japan" thread, and feeling very good about being able to do something for the cause, I realized I should continue doing this kind of thing for any similar event/project I come across..
so here it goes - if you hear or know of art/vinyl related charities (or anything more/less related), happening online, in your area, or anywhere else, please share the info on this thread!.. it will take you up to 2 mins of your time to copy/paste the info, and that info might get few extra $ to that charity, but also, might help someone get something they were looking for, and most important, it will help you feel good about actually doing something useful...
unfortunately, we live in a world where there is more than plenty of reasons to organize charity events for, so just keep your eyes, RSS feeds, twitters, facebooks, and similar things open, and SHARE the info you come across...
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

From James Hance:
I'm usually very private about my private life, but I really need your help right now - I have a beautiful 6yr old daughter who lives with her mum in Palm Coast, FL. She's the most imaginative, caring, hilarious little girl I know and she's on her way to a Children's Hospital in Boston for specialized diagnostic testing for a rare intestinal disorder she has suffered with since birth.
The medical bills are astronomical - I'm asking that, if any of my ridiculous doodles have made you smile, please consider donating a couple of buckaroos to help Maddy get back on her relentlessly cheerful feet? Let's show her how many friends she has
For more info and to learn how to help, click here: www.giveforward.com/hugsformaddy
I'll be uploading original paintings and whatnot in the coming weeks with proceeds going to the trip & bills - I do appreciate your time Please tweet, retweet, facebook and shout this link through rolled up newspapers, every effort counts!
If you'd like to commission an original painting for your own child's room with all proceed's going to Maddy - please contact ronroseartistry@yahoo.com

They provide two weekly workshops for adults in recovery from long and enduring mental distress as well as addictions, where 'participants' or 'students' are encouraged to explore their creativity in a non judgemental, safe, welcoming environment, filling a gap between adult education and colleges that people would otherwise not feel able to attend due to thier vulnerability.

RLR has a very comprehensive programming - there are performances by DJs and musicians ranging from black metal to afrobeat and house to new wave and more. After 4 moths of broadcasting, RLR had to find a way to raise funds for their future projects and broadcasting so they started this donation effort, and with a donation of โฌ 250 you will receive a signed screenprint 60 x 85 cm made by Parra, limited to 50 pieces.

Sure you can you just need the proper attorney and or political connections.
I don't think the point here is to get him out as much as it is to raise awareness to the crazy harsh punishment for graffiti VS real crimes.
i think if you want to eliminate graffiti the community / state needs to provide creative outlets for the public and a forum for individuals to participate in democracy in a real way. Free speech is meaningless if there isn't a forum where people can be heard and unconstrained.

Sure once established it is his choice. But that isn't the case for everyone. One of the things I love about street art is that it gives people an outlet to express themselves may who have few other outlets.

Chinese artist Ai Weiwei benefit poster by Chin Tangerine x Invisible Industries
C. Tangerine, is a 22 years old female student artist, she was the first Hong Kong artist using graffiti art to promote the awareness of Ai Weiwei among the island's population, by spray-painting Ai's image, with the slogan:"Who's afraid of Ai Weiwei", onto street pavement and building wall using a stencil. These actions resulted in Hong Kong police serious crime squad conducting a criminal damage investigation against her, thus turning her into an "inadvertent counterculture icon."
On April 23 2011, about 2000 people marched through Hong Kong streets to support Ai Weiwei, many of them carrying placards with images copying Tangerine's graffiti art, with many similar images being spraypainted on building walls, to protest against police heavy handed action.
screen printed poster, Edition of 50, 18x24โ, $30.00
Poster will go on sale at Invisible-Industries.comMonday June 6th at 11am PST.
Proceeds from the sale will go to the artist C. Tangerine for use in the continued campaign of informing the public of artist Ai Weiweiโs detention by the Chinese Government.
Please read more info on Weiwei's detention >

Thanks for posting this! I have love this image and the story behind it. I was wishing I could get in touch with her to get one made. I had no idea there would be a print but thought it would be great. I just ordered. I hope they are signed but I suspect they are not.
Either way they are up now and well worth $30 IMO.
Any other free Ai Weiwei related prints out there?

Tangerine, is a 22 years old female student artist, she was the first Hong Kong artist using graffiti art to promote the awareness of Ai Weiwei among the island's population, by spray-painting Ai's image, with the slogan:"Who's afraid of Ai Weiwei", onto street pavement and building wall using a stencil. These actions resulted in Hong Kong police serious crime squad conducting a criminal damage investigation against her, thus turning her into an "inadvertent counterculture icon." On April 23 2011, about 2000 people marched through Hong Kong streets to support Ai Weiwei, many of them carrying placards with images copying Tangerine's graffiti art, with many similar images being spraypainted on building walls, to protest against police heavy handed action. screen printed poster, Edition of 50, 18x24โ, $30.00 Poster will go on sale at Invisible-Industries.comMonday June 6th at 11am PST.Proceeds from the sale will go to the artist C. Tangerine for use in the continued campaign of informing the public of artist Ai Weiweiโs detention by the Chinese Government. Please read more info on Weiwei's detention >Thanks for posting this!

I already introduced the Anonymous Charity postcard sale (artist signs the postcard on the back so the buyer doesn't know whose artwork they have got), and I just wanted to inform you that the list of contributing artists now include names such as D*ace, Peter Blake, Beejoir, Remi Rough, Guy Denning, Anita Klein, Boon, Adam McLevey, Paul Benjamins, etc... you can find more info HERE, or you can proceed to adding your contribution HERE, and trying your luck..

General art/toy related charities, by Lunch Special on Aug 28, 2011 14:27:37 GMT 1, I really feel for Robbo and hope and pray a speedy recovery for him as well as a successful fundraiser, but did the person who created the flyer have to emphasize the Banksy effect so much? kinda turns me off
