Damien Hirst - Tate Modern - April 2012, by craigf on Mar 3, 2011 18:01:24 GMT 1, I work 10 mins from Tate Modern and hardly ever make it there. I think I need to get a membership and start leaving work at a decent time

Damien Hirst - Tate Modern - April 2012, by Sundowner on Mar 4, 2011 18:45:53 GMT 1, Just had the 2012 programme through from the Tate. This sounds good!
Damien Hirst 5 April โ 9 September 2012 Damien Hirst first came to public attention in London in 1988 when he conceived and curated Freeze, an exhibition in a disused warehouse which showed his work and that of his friends and fellow students at Goldsmiths College. In the nearly quarter of a century since that pivotal show, Hirst has become one of the most influential artists of his generation. This will be the first substantial survey of his work in a British institution and will bring together key works from over twenty years. The exhibition will include iconic sculptures from his Natural History series, including The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living 1991, in which he suspended a shark in formaldehyde. Also included will be vitrines such as A Thousand Years from 1990, medicine cabinets, pill cabinets and instrument cabinets in addition to seminal paintings made throughout his career using butterflies and flies as well as spots and spins. The two-part installation In and Out of Love, not shown in its entirety since its creation in 1991 and Pharmacy 1992 will be among the highlights of the exhibition.

I remember one of these going through ebay at ยฃ900. Not sure if there is more than one version of this as Other Criteria's version is priced not to sell

Damien Hirst - Tate Modern - April 2012, by stopki on Nov 22, 2011 16:26:51 GMT 1, Damien Hirstโs infamous diamond-studded skull โ the worldโs most expensive piece of contemporary art โ will be displayed in London for the first time since 2007, when it was reportedly sold for a hefty ยฃ50m. The piece, entitled โFor the Love of God,โ will sit pretty in Tate Modernโs Turbine Hall next year in the first UK survey show devoted to the 46-year-old artist. It will join 70 other pieces as part of a major retrospective of Hirstโs work, including a pickled shark (โThe Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Livingโ) and a double-act in the form of a cow and her calf suspended in formaldehyde (โMother and Child Dividedโ). Needless to say, its not for the squeamish. The skull itself is cast in platinum but retains the original teeth of the 18th century owner, and boasts 8,601 flawless diamonds. A 52.4 carat pink diamond sits on the skullโs forehead. The piece was recently scheduled to embark on a world tour, but was, according to the director of Hirstโs company, Science, cancelled due to fears the bling-tastic skull would look โinappropriateโ in the current financial climate. Chris Dercon, Tate Modernโs director, said of the exhibition: โYou will be able to see the skull in a completely different context, without the hype and speculation. We all think we know this work through the media. But if you are actually with the work, and can experience it, smell it, and I shouldnโt say this, but touch it โ it will be very different.โ
cool i hope its as good as the show in monaco a year ago. loved that show!

Damien Hirst - Tate Modern - April 2012, by jusdeep on Nov 22, 2011 17:05:44 GMT 1, Should be a great exhibition. The Sotheby's auction was a fantastic opportunity to see a huge variety of work. I only wish I'd gotten there an hour or so sooner, I was running around upstairs trying to fit everything in which was futile.
