The £50 Art Thread, by Existencil on Dec 2, 2008 10:48:58 GMT 1, Don't agree HC. This thread has become synonymous with GOOD prints under £50. It shouldn't be hijacked by bad work - despite it's cost.

The £50 Art Thread, by Mike Marcus on Dec 2, 2008 12:08:47 GMT 1, Surely if you tally up the positive and negative comments generated by my post, you will see that "good" is a completely subjective matter? If you read my CV (at the bottom of my blog) you will clearly see that I am an accomplished and respected artist. The rest comes down to personal taste does it not?
Or maybe by "good" you mean "safe, a guaranteed investment, something I can readily identify with, something that looks similar enough to a Banksy print for me to understand and trust"? If that is the case then I apologise. I broke a rule. I offered up something genuinely subversive rather than continuing the tedium of the London urban art scene.

The £50 Art Thread, by pezlow on Dec 3, 2008 16:38:24 GMT 1, It seems to me that the point of the print is explained very well in the original post. Personally I think it's an excellent piece & conveys it's intended message clearly & powerfully. I'm not sure I see the problem with it being posted in this thread either. It's art and it's under 50 quid.
I agree. It is a lot more interesting that most of the art posted here.

The £50 Art Thread, by Heavyconsumer on Dec 4, 2008 5:32:54 GMT 1, Very cool Bob! I like these a lot. They look well executed and the message is presumably a commentary on our greedy need to own and profit from everything new we come into contact with, rather than simply learn from it and better ourselves in ways that are truly productive as opposed to materially, using "the final frontier" and our pending conquest thereof to demonstrate the point!?? Or is it relative to astronomical property prices? Or something else perhaps? Either way it's fun and creative and looks decent in all the colourways too imo. Good luck. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Thanks for your comments and I'm glad you like the print.
Im pleased that the meaning behind the image is clear and comes across as I did not want to just put any old image out there. The point I was trying to get across is the overpriced, building everywhere mind set that people are living in today. Leaving us nowhere and thus marketing the moon which was such a triumphant achievement for man, but now is just another place to build, cash in and therefore destroy! However if u do get any other messages from my image then that is great. It is good to see how my image is perceived by others.

The £50 Art Thread, by funyoung on Dec 5, 2008 13:22:22 GMT 1, Surely if you tally up the positive and negative comments generated by my post, you will see that "good" is a completely subjective matter? If you read my CV (at the bottom of my blog) you will clearly see that I am an accomplished and respected artist. The rest comes down to personal taste does it not? Or maybe by "good" you mean "safe, a guaranteed investment, something I can readily identify with, something that looks similar enough to a Banksy print for me to understand and trust"? If that is the case then I apologise. I broke a rule. I offered up something genuinely subversive rather than continuing the tedium of the London urban art scene.
If Banksy is so tedious then why does your blog CV use the line 'Israel’s answer to Banksy'?
Or is it just to increase sales?
I thought this was a thread where people came to tell others about work that they have found. It is now getting diluted by discussion with the artist. I have no 'beef' with this artist but there are sections where most artists show their new piece. It should then be an honour if someone feels the they like it enough to post it in this thead also, as a way of showing their favourite 'pieces under £50'. My humble opinion.

The £50 Art Thread, by manty on Dec 5, 2008 15:21:44 GMT 1, I agree, I liked that this piece and the description made me think for a second and taught me something new. I actually rather like it and salute the artist for sharing it. It clearly is a heart felt piece with some really deep messages and while in the end aesthetically I think its too disturbing for my wall with the snot and what not, I am glad I was exposed to it. As art, it did what it was intended, changed my worldview and understanding of conflict in the world. I agreed with stuey1980, when someone is shooting down an artist after they are posting a heartfelt piece that took lots of sacrifice to produce, that is a "new low" for the board and frankly, drbastard, I think you should move on from this forum. Its one thing if someone is hammering on a successful artists like Kaws, MBW, Faile, Fairey, etc., who can have a bit thicker skin because they are making a decent living off art and can wrap themselves in the warm blanket of knowing they have a huge fan base or can seek solace by revisiting their past clippings from Art Forum, Juxtapoz, etc. They invite critique based on their stature. It goes with the territory. Its wholly another thing to attack an artist directly for a piece they put a lot of work into. What license do you have to attack any emerging or semi-established artists? Have you tried to put together a print release? What have you painted from your heart that we can take a go of attacking and belittling? This forum often tries to find the next Hirst, the next Banksy, the next next. Encouraging people to experiment with art is the way that happens. Beating them down does exactly the opposite and worse, mutes opinions that frankly I value more than yours... Beyond that, Mike Marcus has put together some really great prints in the past that were well reviewed by the forum. You should check them out. He's an extremely talented guy who I would be pissed if was at all turned off of continuing his contributions by this comment. What makes this forum better than almost any other art forum is the number of artists who contribute... We have major artists who were launched off this forum and who actively contribute. Be careful what you say, as you don't know who is reading this board... I'm possibly as critical as anyone, but I would never have stooped to the low of attacking the merit of an artists work when he clearly he put a lot of time and thought into it.
