Picked up a signed copy of his second novel. What I see is incongruity between the mathematical precision of Alex Colville's piece and the arrangement of those books. If I were a guest at shinji's home, I'd patiently wait for them to go to the loo, or the kitchen for more drinks. Then (at the risk of causing offence and never again being invited back) I'd exploit that moment to rearrange all the books according to author, height or colour. Here's a preliminary sketch for Pacific, which shows the importance that Colville placed on composition:  Apparently, the gun was also his own โ his WWII service-issue revolver *.
You might find my bookshelves rather irritating, Iโm afraid.

By color? That would be a nightmare to find anything. Author is rational if you wanted to be like a bookstore.
Practicality and efficiency don't always have to take precedence over aesthetics and impact.
If they did, it's doubtful we'd ever have the pleasure of seeing six-inch heels. And how tragic would that be?

In 2004, the artist Chris Cobb was given access to Adobe Books* in San Francisco. His installation of 20,000 books was called There Is Nothing Wrong In This Whole Wide World.
Photos of the end result are impressive. But imagine if we could have seen this in person. I dare say that such a first-hand experience could even have been emotional.

I mean I think itโs super comfortable and I feel like a million bucks when sitting in it. We saw an authorized dealer last year and when my wife sat in one they had she was like โok I get it.โ
That being said, itโs a matter of if you want to drop way too much money on a chair or not. I wanted to do this before I have any real responsibilities (ex. A kid). Itโs going to last forever and age beautifully. I have zero regrets.
