Show everyone your latest Art Purchase?, by sgolby on Apr 10, 2021 2:31:47 GMT 1, Just received my first purchase from Avant Arte, they really do a bang up job on the packaging, and the little touches like a hand written note are quite a nice addition to the feeling of joy when opening up a new piece of art.
I love this Johnson Tsang piece, it is significantly larger and heavier than I thought which makes it even more lovely in my opinion.

Funny background; my father in law was teaching Hans to fly a glider plane and mentioned my kids and I liked Star Wars. Hans told my father in law that he actually was an illustrator for a number of Star Wars books. Each illustration took about 250 hours with lots of back and forth with Lucas. There were deep discussions on the detail of these works, such as engine structure as they ended up being used as engineering schematics for the ships and have influenced much Star Wars related works.
Hans had only ever sold some to Lucas and never tried to sell any others. Anything he has a bid on he has to offer first to LucasFilm. He has about 10 remaining works and I bought these 3. The detail and intricacy is staggering. In an increasingly digital world, I love having hand drawn illustrations of my favourite other universe.
Death Star - 1997, Venerator Star Destroyer - 2005, Anakin's Pod - 1999

What I see is incongruity between the mathematical precision of Alex Colville's piece and the arrangement of those books.
If I were a guest at shinji's home, I'd patiently wait for them to go to the loo, or the kitchen for more drinks. Then (at the risk of causing offence and never again being invited back) I'd exploit that moment to rearrange all the books according to author, height or colour.
Here's a preliminary sketch for Pacific, which shows the importance that Colville placed on composition:
