Artists You Might Not Know, by kuni on Apr 4, 2018 14:03:31 GMT 1, Great to see people taking notice of Brett Kern's work - He is crazy talented - We have a few projects planned with Brett coming up soon - Get on our mailing list as his pieces go quick www.blackbookgallery.com/artists/brett-kern/ I'm feeling Brett's inflatable dinosaurs. Don't see anything available on the secondary market though. Any suggestions on scoring these on the secondary? How frequently has he been releasing them, and any idea when the next release might be?

Ah nice, good find. I would love to grab a gigantic ceramic dinosaur but $900 is a little rich for my blood. I'd like to try to catch one of his $200ish releases. Thanks for the heads up though.

Artists You Might Not Know, by nobokov on Jun 2, 2018 4:12:22 GMT 1, I don't know about you all, but I'm kinda getting tired of seeing the same artists talked about on here: Banksy Pejac Harland Miller Faile
Hush Sandra Chevrier Martin Whatson Jonas Wood Jerkface Shrigley KAWS Dface
Murakami POSE Invader RETNA EINE
It's getting boring. Is Street Art dead? Let's just say it's dead - so what's the next movement? What artists do you all find interesting these days besides these ones listed above?
For me, my tastes are moving towards Contemporary art and "emerging" artists. I've been listening to a couple of interesting podcasts Sound and Vision , Deep Color , Vantage Point and a lot of youtube interviews and lectures. At the moment, my favorite artist is Emily Mae Smith. What are your new favorites (living artists - please no picks for hype)?

Artists You Might Not Know, by maxamaxa2 on Jun 2, 2018 7:53:15 GMT 1, Think Dasher Rockwell and Sweler are worth a mention. Brendan Monroe is also making amazing works. www.instagram.com/dizashizerizockwizell www.instagram.com/sweler_art www.instagram.com/brendantheblob
Ted Pim is a little tricky, not sure what direction he will go but seems promising, need a new manager/gallery thou. www.instagram.com/tedpim
But superior artists doesn’t grow on trees, we can’t expect new once discussed here every week... there are a few solid once and they will off course get more mentioning, but there are a lot of more “fluttering” than your list 😊

All very uninspiring. Who’s that chap doing Mickey Mouse Giclees for over a grand?

Hope to score a OG soon.
Also WES21 is very cool. A bit futuristic as well with a touch of Pejac.

Artists You Might Not Know, by jesterful on Jun 2, 2018 15:00:28 GMT 1, I’ve got nothing against Mickey Mouse giclees, id probably have one in my house if they weren’t so expensive, but I wouldn’t call it ‘art’. It’s probably better described as decoration perhaps?
I’m really into the people bluring street/urban art and fine art at the moment. Xenz as an example. Jago as another.
All my opinion of course.

That's interesting. Is Xenz considered urban art? To me he's a classical Chinese painter who paints on walls. And can his work be thought of as street decoration as well or does his work convey some kind of meaning?
What is street art? If a person paints a mural on a wall, are they then a street artist? I feel as though street art should be defiant and express something other than just exhibiting beauty.

Artists You Might Not Know, by hui on Jun 2, 2018 16:56:32 GMT 1, I always considered street art to be ignored, often hated by neighborhoods - this would often be graffiti. And I'm always surprised by who's interest in it - because I find it hard to believe some members on here know anything about urban or street. In a sense, I associate street art with spray paint and perhaps even stencils.
Bith street artist and muralists are urban art, I think. Urban art I associate with public art.
I find that murals are historically subversive, particularly since they're often making a political statement and/or in dilapidated neighborhoods.

Artists You Might Not Know, by hui on Jun 2, 2018 17:03:16 GMT 1, When I'm tired of all the same stuff often found on here, I like to head to an art show at either a local high school or University and purchase something there. The artist surely appreciates any support. I also tend to really enjoy the piece, knowing full well I'll never be able to re-sell it. I also tend to get a hell of a bargain. Lol, sometimes I just want to spend $500 for an original instead of a print 200 other people have.
