Artists You Might Not Know, by Deleted on Jun 9, 2018 11:25:11 GMT 1, Not new but I think Jaybo Monk is creating some really nice work at the moment - he’s been posting a lot of paintings of explosions on Instagram which I really like. Worth checking out if you’re not familiar with him.
I cant repost his IG posts here - seems to be how he has IG set up.

Artists You Might Not Know, by moron on Jun 13, 2018 15:18:34 GMT 1, As an artist that mainly practices fine art utilizing classic techniques and mediums, I struggle to understand a lot of what drives the market of urban/contemporary/street art. It seems to me that there are a lot of artists who manage to make interesting prints and cash out on having a recognizable style and being broadly accessible. I like this place because it helps me leave my fine art bubble and understand/appreciate new trends in art. But at the same time, I know that I cannot make art that catches the eyes of contemporary speculators. I believe I make the best art when I stay true to myself and avoid the temptation of being provocative or creating the same pieces in some off-the-wall gimmicky style. I wish urban and street art collectors could see that art using classic techniques and images can still be bold, innovative and modern in execution. Unfortunately, getting people to take a chance on buying originals from experienced but unknown artists for $1-$10k is difficult. People always want an investment so they’ll lowball you on value. This is why I mostly only sell commissions or sell to family and friends for a slight discount. Better to sell to someone you love that will appreciate it for life than a stranger who wants to pay you 1/10th of what you deserve. In sum, there will always be a list of 15-20 over-discussed artists while tens of thousands remain forever in obscurity My view is that one reason people some people play safe and buy what is hyped on this fake art investment board is that they lack self confidence and only buy what others buy so that they can conform to some sort of art clique.
There are some artists sold by galleries etc posted on this board I would buy and some artists sold by galleries etc I wouldn't want even if the art was free.
The only reason to buy this art is because of the art market today with so called rising prices, and short term rising prices at that. How many would be brave enough to buy sme of these artists today on the basis that they will lock up the prints etc for ten or fifteen years and try to recoup their money with a profit then.
Artists release prints and people post how sad they are they missed out and within afew months tehse same prints are offered for sale usually at flipper prices with some excuse that they have to sell because of whatver fake excuse they can come up with.
Urban artists today are people who paint on walls for money. Galleries are working with some where they can promote or sell the art as the new Warhol, or haring etc etc.
Galleries and dealers who have existed for a long time in areas with very wealthy clients will always find an artist who plays the game in order to get very rich people to part with their money.
basically at that level its less about the art and more about the type of buyers out there and how their minds work.
At the low inexpensive level of art and buying art their is more choice and less risk of losing a lot of money but also less chance of making a big quick profit which seems to be the mind set of most people these days.

Artists You Might Not Know, by Hairbland on Jun 13, 2018 15:38:09 GMT 1, I’ve got nothing against Mickey Mouse giclees, id probably have one in my house if they weren’t so expensive, but I wouldn’t call it ‘art’. It’s probably better described as decoration perhaps? I’m really into the people bluring street/urban art and fine art at the moment. Xenz as an example. Jago as another. All my opinion of course. I like Xenz, and have thought of going for a bird print more than once (and my 80 year old mother has some awesome bird watercolor and ink originals in her bathroom in Florida, not by Xenz), but personally I've seen little growth over the last 3-5 years.

Artists You Might Not Know, by moron on Jun 13, 2018 15:45:15 GMT 1, Maybe if galleries were more honest with their pricing and didn’t take such a large commission people would be more inclined to buy something a bit different. Dropping a grand, maybe 1500 on a canvas is a lot easier than 3/4/5k in my opinion. A lot of galleries will ask stupid prices in the hopes of trapping a sucker as well. Make the art more accessible more people might buy? I remember somewhere seeing a thing about art priced between 3 and 5 k easier to sell than art priced for 1K as buyers with money would easily part with up to 5 k on their credit cards etc as in impulse buy and would not be bothered with art priced lower, plus people with elss money would not want to spend 1K on an artwork as a general rule.
A lot seems to be about psychology and marketing

Artists You Might Not Know, by Hairbland on Jun 13, 2018 16:01:12 GMT 1, Also I think people need to realize that selling out a print doesn't amount to much now days, plenty of great artists don't sell out prints but sell original works of art. Also plenty of mediocre artists sell out prints but can't sell originals consistently. I could guess why this happens, most of it is that people are willing to speculate on an artist at a lower cost but not willing to really invest in an original because its cheaper to have less skin in the game. This forum alone has made print markets for mediocre artists, yet its not great at pushing original prices for those same artists. Why do you think that is? Interesting. I've been involved in the NYC art scene since the 80's, I've seen many an upcoming artist tag a ridiculous price on their original because they've heard that's what they should do. And the galleries go along with this, nurturing pricing more so than new artists.

Artists You Might Not Know, by Gard on Jun 17, 2018 14:46:08 GMT 1, If you look to the contemporary art world there's endless possibilities of discovering great artists. I saw that someone mentioned the inaccessibility of this world, and it's a lot bigger than the urban / street art world so it might feel a bit overwhelming. But find artists you like, and then follow the galleries they work and show with, that might be the easiest way to get started. Find galleries you like and then start following their program, and go visit them when you have a chance. Good art is meant to be seen in person not through a screen.
Some emerging artists I like
Charlie Roberts Yves Scherer Eliza Douglas Yu Honglei Mehdi Ghadyanloo Katja Novitskova Malin Gabriella Nordin Hanna Whitaker Brian Kokoska
I run a contemporary gallery so I may be affiliated with a few of them.

Artists You Might Not Know, by tommy the animator on Jun 18, 2018 22:19:23 GMT 1, Its a whole lot of interesting artist out here who actual paint and do not rely on a team of assistants to paint for them and sign it as if they did the work. this is manufactured work and its not worth the paper its printed on. the art world has become a total joke. Thats the elephant in the room. I express myself freely as an artist because Im independent and could careless about representation or
being in any major gallery. this site is based on buying art because of its value instead of its beauty. All you see what the art is worth and nothing about its beauty.
stop being told whats hot. it doesn't cost a cent to pay attention. I been on
this site 4 or 5 years and see the same work I seen 5 years ago from the same artist. the sad thing is I see plenty of really amazing artwork from many independent artist on this site that never get commented on or even receive a like and you are asking "Any new interesting artist out there worth mentioning?" is that a joke? smh

I think it's the convergences between art and popular culture, perhaps from anime-inspired aesthetics and the supernatural. Relooked at both Murakami and Komatsu's works and they reminds me of the disillusioned, the repressed and the spiritual. Somewhat depressing yet enigmatic.
