There is shill bidding then there is SHILL bidding, by knox on May 12, 2007 15:22:16 GMT 1, Grin Reaper recently went for around ยฃ4000. This is a source of grievance to me as I passed mine on for ยฃ1500 in September, which in fairness was the going rate then.
As a result of owning one I keep a (teary) eye on the prices. Therefore I find it hard to believe that this is at ยฃ6,500 with only one bid...

If you are playing the bump the price up gamer then at least do it discreetly!

its been bid up to ยฃ220 with a day to go even though theres one on sale for ยฃ150 buy-it-now. not saying its definately shill bidding, but if its not the bidders obviously didn't do their homework...

this auction is adrscrib's from this forum. ยฃ6.5k is the starting bid and it has one bidder. not so much shill bidding as a shill bid but i'll leave that up to you, there is no way to tell until it finishes.
the last three auctions have been; ยฃ3.2k, ยฃ3440 and ยฃ3.9k. where values are at now, who knows? is it inconceivable that this is not genuine? you be the judge.

There is shill bidding then there is SHILL bidding, by verbalkint on May 12, 2007 22:33:29 GMT 1, i had a baldwin canvas listed at ยฃ5500 or best offer, got an offer of ยฃ3500, decided to accept, then the guy says 'oh sorry, i have bought another one now' so i told him he had a legally binding agreement with me. then he says, 'ok, i will have it buy i will give you ยฃ3000 and a fail 'prince charles' print. I say ยฃ3100 plus the print, he accepts. Then he says he wants me to take the canvas to london, i dont drive so this will be ยฃ115 return on the train, it bloody heavy 3 foot by 3 foot and will need to be taken in its protective crate. Plus i know that when i get there he will say 'ooooh, i thought it was bigger than that, i will tell you what, to save you taking it back i will give you ยฃ2700' so i told him to do what it said on the auction that he agreed to. Either pay me and i will courier it to him, or he can come and pick it up. So he ignores me and the non paying bidder that i filed againsed him, so i leave him a negative and when he tries to do the same to me it doesnt count (nevermind)
But the fact remains that i think there should be some sort of financial penalty for people who ruin auctions and dont pay.
rant over!!

here, here. there is a couple of tactics i know of, that are toally reliant on being able to cancel your bids at the last. on odd occasions maybe but some people do this regularly and if you win and don't pay, in theory you should go to small claims. ebay don't care, they get paid or they suspend you're account - no questions.
genius.

If its not shilling, which I seriously doubt, then hopefully it will go to a good home that appreciates it.

There is shill bidding then there is SHILL bidding, by pw on May 14, 2007 1:34:32 GMT 1, I have been reading this forum on and off now for some months and this is my 1st posting. Re; The meteoric rise on ebay of GRIN REAPER and all the fuss it has caused and the conversations re Shill bidding on this forum as if to say ' why the quick rise' 'is it really worth it' Well as a purchaser of one of the aforementioned prints and from one of the finished auctions discussed on this and another thread on the forum I think it is worth every penny I paid. However I am a bit concerned at the insinuations towards the seller I bought from re Shilling. This seller IS a enuinely nice person. I have been an ebayer for some years now and am well aware of the scams that go on which runs through all the categories. This is the first time I have bought any art on ebay and before I made my bid I did my homework re this prints authenticity AND the person selling it. Thanks Dora and co. I was happy that the purchaser got more for it than he had expected and that I had won it for less than I thought I was going to have to pay. After all with hind site we would all have bought a Gin Reaper for ยฃ400 2 yrs ago if we had had the opportunity and the money. I am just happy I got a second chance for my son to own one and that I bought from a genuinely nice person, a FANTASTIC print. Banksy, will be happy to know that, the student who struggled to buy one 2 yrs ago is now off on a trip of a life time around the world curtsy of him and this sale and another student gets a 21st birthday present he will cherish and remember a life time, and I get to see my son's wonderful GRIN when we give him the print. Winners all round I'd say AND without Shilling. Thanks Banksy vazie, the main thing is that you're happy with the purchase. I assume that the print you own was the one that sold for ยฃ3,900 recently. I can't be bothered going through all of the threads to check, but I'm not sure anyone accused this of being a shill bid. anyway, its starting to look cheap at the price...

There is shill bidding then there is SHILL bidding, by dwight on May 14, 2007 23:47:38 GMT 1, Common Scam.... Scammers (mostly in nigeria i believe having it happened to me several times) look for auctions that are priced unusually high that the price is unexpected as others go for much less. They then use BIN for the excessive high price or bid your auction well beyond reasonable value. Then they try to use your greed/excitement to lure you to ship the goods to them before receiving payment. They then send you a westernunion email saying the money is in escrow and when the item ships the money will be sent....

There is shill bidding then there is SHILL bidding, by verbalkint on May 15, 2007 6:32:11 GMT 1, I tell you, no shill bidding here tho i admit i wasnt expecting it, but very fragile bid, as buyer asked some questions about it - he wants me to deliver in canada before paying!... + only 1 feedback... which is something i wont do! Well i will take a chance for someone else to bid... and can deliver to the UK personally.... anyway i have over 80 watchers (even tho half of them are just curious) but i'm sure someone will eventually bid... cheers, no more msg from me on this topic, i will let auction run its course. And the negative publicity i dont mind as its free advertising. Cheers :-)
the bidder asked you, who lives in malta, to deliver the print to canada! I would love to see that email. Im not calling you a liar, but i find that extremely difficult to believe. I mean seriously, could anyone, no matter how inflated their ego, or how much of a walter mitty character they are, possibly believe for one fraction of a second that it is even remotely acceptable or feesable that someone will deliver a fucking print 7000 miles!!
I mean seriously, i cannot believe that there is someone in the world who is so retarded that they actually would believe that to be a reasonable request. I think that you were caught out shill bidding your own item and so have cancelled the bid. when you realised you were caught out you came on here to make a pathetic excuse.
The reason i am making this so personal is that you may remember calling me an idiot the other day for advising you to remove some text from your auction so ebay didnt pull the listing. I find it ironic that you call me an idiot and yet are so stupid yourself to belive that we will swallow your bullshit. You are a dirty rotten cheating shill bidder in my humble opinion.
shilly boy

It must be costing you in ebay fees every time it doesn't sell! Given it's likely to be the only one on ebay why don't you just run a normal auction and find out its true value?
Or sell it to/via a gallery if ebay prices aren't high enough for you.

Yes we do live in a democratic society there fore i am entitled to my opinion personally i could not care less where you come from however i think the fact you have admitted to shill bidding on your own item says that you are not to be trusted.

There is shill bidding then there is SHILL bidding, by tadghostal on May 15, 2007 18:18:08 GMT 1, Why are all of adscrib's posts removed from this thread now?
Its a bit like watching a movie without the main character--doesn't make much sense any more.

There is shill bidding then there is SHILL bidding, by tomhills1 on May 15, 2007 18:28:37 GMT 1, The reason i am making this so personal is that you may remember calling me an idiot the other day for advising you to remove some text from your auction so ebay didnt pull the listing. I find it ironic that you call me an idiot and yet are so stupid yourself to belive that we will swallow your bulls**t. You are a dirty rotten cheating shill bidder in my humble opinion. shilly boy
i'd hate to catch you when you get out of bed the wrong side verbalkint
man, i thought i was grumpy in the mornings. ;D

There is shill bidding then there is SHILL bidding, by tomhills1 on May 15, 2007 18:35:16 GMT 1, I have been reading this forum on and off now for some months and this is my 1st posting. Thanks Banksy
good to see that stereotypical student isn't looking to clear his debts or start-up a business with the cash.
seriously though, i may be missing something but i fail to see why you think anyone would feel your purchase had been shill bid-up? by the sounds of it everyone was a winner, hope your boy is grateful. why on earth someone would take a point off you for that i don't know.
