Willy Rizzo?Cidue Modern Coffee table, by froz on Sept 20, 2010 17:05:43 GMT 1, Hey guys,
I am not sure if you know what I am looking for but I purchased this coffee table and am trying to find some information about it. Any of you ever heard of the Designer Willy Rizzo or the Company Cidue Italy?
I know the table is from the 60's/70's and its modern. Anything else I am completely clueless about.
Also I am trying to figure out how to polish the stainless steel and get some of the light scratches out of the mirror top. Do any of you know the best way of doing that? The top is smoked mirror.
thanks for all of your help in advance!

Willy Rizzo?Cidue Modern Coffee table, by froz on Sept 20, 2010 17:59:58 GMT 1, Thanks wizbong, just sent him an email with some photos. What type of cloth would i use with the baby oil? Just a soft cotton cloth or microfiber?
Also do I let the baby oil sit on it or do I come back across it with a dry cloth to dry it?

a soft cotton cloth or microfiber should do but dont hold me to that because the stuff we polished wasnt our own.....just put a little on the cloth and softly rub it in it'll prob be a bit of trial an error to get it nice....but if in doubt dont do it and get some 1 out to do it....it's a nice table so you wouldnt want to wreak it....

Willy Rizzo?Cidue Modern Coffee table, by ilmambo on Sept 21, 2010 14:42:55 GMT 1, I know that Willy Rizzo is a famous photographer that started working as designer in the late 60s in Italy, when he married an Italian actresses (Elsa Marinelli). He designed a lot of pieces in the 60s and 70s because his style was unique during that years and many famous actors and artists of the Italian "Dolce Vita" bought his furnitures, some like yours made by the company "Ci due".
If you want to know more about his biography I suggest to visit his official website www.willyrizzo.com/ there should be an english version too. I also suggest to contact directly his studio because generally his designed furnitures had a limited production and now there are a lot of fake clones around the globe, so if you don't have any COA or something like that they can probably confirm if yours is an original one (I hope so for you, because it's indeed a lovely table!).
regards

Willy Rizzo?Cidue Modern Coffee table, by froz on Sept 21, 2010 16:02:49 GMT 1, i thought about contacting his studio. I read his biography but no where does it say what manufacture he designed for. That is the big mystery.
Thanks ilmambo!

Willy Rizzo?Cidue Modern Coffee table, by wizzy on Sept 21, 2010 20:15:41 GMT 1, Glad its sorted, not that rare to find Rizzo pieces at sales worldwide, almost every sale which has mid century works in has a Rizzo piece and almost every dealer in same ditto. I have never come across a faked Rizzo table in all the years i have been in the Design business but theres always a first. Nice little table there Froz. Also Cidue is a well known name so no worries.

Willy Rizzo?Cidue Modern Coffee table, by wizzy on Sept 21, 2010 21:36:50 GMT 1, Just do what you can yourself Froz and live with the little scratches, if its 100% perfect you will be scared to use it, it will also cost three arms and four legs to send it back for repolishing.

Willy Rizzo?Cidue Modern Coffee table, by atom on Sept 21, 2010 22:21:24 GMT 1, Cool table man. Does yours slide open to reveal space for a mini bar ? There is a PDF floating about on the web showing some examples of his furniture and stars he shot from yesteryear, Brando to Picasso, amazing photos. Paul smith is a big fan of his work and recently put on an exhibition of his work, also remember seeing him purchasing one of these at Alfies Market in Marlybone back in the day. Man these tables were all the rage back in the day with rock stars and the social elite, a lot of these mirrored tables had razor scratches because they were always being used for coke. Keep the scratches as they add character and it's great history.

2'000'000 ₤ in 1972 for that table? Really? Woah, now I understand why Rizzo was famous amongst actors and artists! To clarify why I'm a bit shocked in Italy in the 1970 the price of a ~100 mq (~1100 sqft) house was ~15'000'000 ₤, a volkswagen beatle was less than 1'000'000 ₤, the monthly salary for an employee was ~150'000 ₤.
