Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by bullet on Jun 3, 2010 10:07:34 GMT 1, Does anyone else think this is a bit off?
I remember someone from black rat press on here a few weeks ago offering £1750 for a NBG and low and behold there is one on their site now for £2750
www.blackratpress.co.uk/product-no-ball-games-(grey).php?gallery=yes
feel free to delete this thread if its not suitable, but this is very shady behaviour IMO. Particularly to those that are BRP customers.
The argument here is not that they are selling it for more, thats up to them. The argument is they have come onto a forum where they are respected and decided to screw over people. Weird.
same with this as well, which quite frankly, is taking the piss

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by Karl Read on Jun 3, 2010 10:10:49 GMT 1, Why is it shady? They told everyone it would end up on the site at a later date. Thats what galleries do, knowone is under any pressure to buy it.

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by Deleted on Jun 3, 2010 11:04:03 GMT 1, oh look they sell Damien Hirst prints also, really who gives a shit - someone who has a bee in their bonnet about them or didnt think to do it first?
The artist isnt represented by BRP, they buy in the secondary market, they sell in to the secondary market. BRP come on here asking if someone is prepared to sell them their NBG, offering a good price of approx £2200-2300 (from reading previous posts), then in turn sell it for £2750. Why not lay in to the person(s) who sold it to them in the first instance? They made a much bigger profit in the process then BRP.

The only thing I see a problem with this is they are buying above the going rate and selling far higher than the going rate. This can artificially drive prices up... something that none of us really need

I guess because they are a print house (or so the name suggests) people presume they only sell work by artists that they represent

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by klyde on Jun 3, 2010 15:13:28 GMT 1, At that price Id want it to be as direct from source as possible.
Not 2nd, 3rd, or who knows what hand from a random on an art forum or ebay.
If your rich enough to buy at that price, and considering its his recent print, the thought of it being 2nd hand would probably put you off a little.
You would expect to only be owned by galleries for the purposes of sale direct from the printers, not some guy that needs the cash, or wifes hates it etc.
Probably the main reason for buying from a gallery, and not ebay etc.

This is Banksy latest, and at that price you would expect that its direct from printer to gallery. Not handled by who knows and how many.
Thats all.
Its different if its an older print, but as its his latest imo the buyer should safely assume he is the first owner and knows its completely mint.

and i agree totally with this. if i was going to be shelling out that sort of cash i would feel much better sending it to an established gallery then an email address of someone i know very little or nothing about.

PEGGY THINKS YOU'RE PLACING TOO MUCH STORE IN CERTAIN COLLECTORS GIVING A FLYING FUCK HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE OWNED THE WORK. IN MANY INSTANCES WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT IS THAT THE WORK IS MINT & IS BOUGHT FROM A VERY REPUTABLE GALLERY FOR A LARGE SUM OF MONEY, THIS PURELY AN EXTENSION OF THE DESIRE TO "OWN" THE PIECE OF ART.
PEGGY IS ALSO CURIOUS WHAT SORT OF TIMESCALE KLYDE FEELS IS APPROPRIATE, FOR A PIECE OF ART TO BECOME ACCEPTABLY SOLD AS SECOND OR THIRD HAND.

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by rosstierney on Jun 3, 2010 17:53:20 GMT 1, this thread is the only thing that's off. 'our' prices (forum/ebay) are a different kettle of fish compared to 'croesus' prices (gallery/auction). leave them to buy as they please. they obviously prefer to pay a premium and spend what little spare time they do have with loved ones rather than trawling. if brp didn't offer 'our' market value to the seller, they wouldn't have let it go. you've bought for a price & sold for more. you've even sold gifts. move on.

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by G-Man on Jun 3, 2010 19:59:14 GMT 1, This is typical supply and demand, Galleries have to rent space and have overheads, they charge more because people like to feel that they can return to the place if they have a problem and trust them because of this, the price of trust on a Banksy NBG Grey seems to be in the region of £800 - £900.
I'm a gambler I'd rather bank the extra and take my chances.. this does mean that I have been sold fake and damaged prints but in the long term I'm still in pocket, there is no problem in my eyes buying at one price and selling at another, thats just sensible really

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by snausages on Jun 3, 2010 20:33:00 GMT 1, It's little different than "Galleries" i.e. scalpers that buy works at auction and then sell it at their gallery for double and triple the price waiting for the emotionally desperate buyer to give in. Happens a lot actually.
Didn't someone post that the Sale Ends Today canvas that sold for only about $200k usd at auction a year ago is now for sale at a private gallery for £300.000!?
But yeah, this isn't going to win BRP any friends or favors if they take advantage of the community this way. But it can go both ways, I sold a Faile print once on ebay, and the final winer was actually a gallery in London. They bought it at the peak, I wouldn't be surprised if they're still trying to resell it.

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by sug on Jun 3, 2010 20:43:04 GMT 1, Does anyone else think this is a bit off? I remember someone from black rat press on here a few weeks ago offering £1750 for a NBG and low and behold there is one on their site now for £2750 www.blackratpress.co.uk/product-no-ball-games-(grey).php?gallery=yesfeel free to delete this thread if its not suitable, but this is very shady behaviour IMO. Particularly to those that are BRP customers. The argument here is not that they are selling it for more, thats up to them. The argument is they have come onto a forum where they are respected and decided to screw over people. Weird. same with this as well, which quite frankly, is taking the piss www.blackratpress.co.uk/product-applause.php?gallery=yes So you've never bought something (or even obtained something free) then sold it for a huge profit???
