Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by mishco on Jun 4, 2010 19:51:48 GMT 1, This is Banksy latest, and at that price you would expect that its direct from printer to gallery. Not handled by who knows and how many. Thats all.
What a tiresome read, does it really make any difernce how many people have owned a piece of art before you? i can picture the reaction now of some of the arses on here moaning if banksy prints were given direct to other galleries to be sold on at over inflated gallery prices, all brp is doing is buying from one and sellng to another in much the same way as your local corner shop would do with a packet of crisps. really not much difference so what's the fuss about.

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by nacional on Jun 4, 2010 20:21:07 GMT 1, Point that galleries need to ask higher prices due to overheads if very leaky. Many many galleries now are just virtual and have little or no overheads. As for "unvirtual" galleries justifying charging more than private buyers/ sellers, I have found that they actually don't. In all my dealings with galleries their listed price is just a punt, an invitation to treat, a shot in the dark. They push the price down the minute they sense a bite. I had galleries shifting down from 75K to 60k without my even asking and then when I uummed and aahhhed a bit wahacked it down to 52K. They just don't expect to get what they ask for....

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by jamo on Jun 4, 2010 21:38:32 GMT 1, It's a free country. BRP have their overheads, wages, shows to put on, etc. and are entitled to sell at higher than the going rates that people 'in the know' (that use this forum) would pay. Just as they are entitled to pay what a forum member will take for a print.
I've bought and sold via this forum and for every transaction that has gone smoothly, I've been messed around on another.
Life's too short and some people prefer to buy from a business with a 'shop front' / premises, rather than through a forum, website or e bay, and not be messed around.
I've bought from BRP at their shows, on-line releases and a few from from them on the secondary market - and they've been efficient and reliable. Sometimes, I'd rather not have the hassles and pay a bit more. If they are charging too much you have the choice not buy or to haggle the price. Or to buy via the forum.
Although this year has seen a lot less BRP print releases and shows, I think they put a lot into this scene. I know its a bit of a shocker for some that they have to make a profit but last time I looked they were a business and not a registered charity.
Thanks
Jamo

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by spenie1975 on Jun 4, 2010 22:42:08 GMT 1, They do put a lot back into the scene, but they also cancel orders on people re-selling prints they have released,, but reap the rewards of people doing the same with other galleries or print releases. No consistency in thier practice.

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by Happy Shopper on Jun 5, 2010 9:55:26 GMT 1, I guess they need to change their business model in order to survive. No harm in acting like any other gallery! Just a shame they can't keep pure, and just represent their own artists. Tough times though...

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by andyctree on Jun 5, 2010 14:40:06 GMT 1, I have only had great dealings with them.
Who really cares if they are selling some Banksy prints? They have as much right as anyone does.
This thread is ridiculous.

was thinking the same thing

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by curiousgeorge on Jun 5, 2010 19:15:14 GMT 1, More than a few collectors have found them unscrupulous and unprofessional in the past, legend has it they were approached to do the Subway Art 25th anniversary book release and they were not even aware of the book or it's place in history
How long left on the lease now?
Jboy mental thread given the history you have! How many Adam Neate street pics did you search for and locate with the sole(sic) intention of selling them to buy new shoes??? save for a token charity donation

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by curiousgeorge on Jun 5, 2010 19:47:27 GMT 1, I make a difference with a hands on approach every week if that counts?
Anyway i think people were trying to point out it's a bit ironic you complaining, if you can't see why people would think that way, then you are a couple of pork pies short of a hamper.
I recall another member finding half a dozen or so and giving them to forum members

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by bullet on Jun 5, 2010 20:17:43 GMT 1, on the contrary. i send members things all the time on here, i just dont make a big deal of it to get the pats on the back.
there is many people on here who would leach anything and not reciprocate and i am guessing most of you guys are exactly that. Tell me what you have sent people? or on the other hand, tell me what you have received and then sold on the sly. i would say many many things.

Maybe we don't want to sit and pat ourselves on the back like some people.

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by silvermyn on Jun 7, 2010 12:15:40 GMT 1, This is typical supply and demand, Galleries have to rent space and have overheads, they charge more because people like to feel that they can return to the place if they have a problem and trust them because of this, the price of trust on a Banksy NBG Grey seems to be in the region of £800 - £900. I'm a gambler I'd rather bank the extra and take my chances.. this does mean that I have been sold fake and damaged prints but in the long term I'm still in pocket, there is no problem in my eyes buying at one price and selling at another, thats just sensible really
I remember you getting that duff Love Rat. That was a bummer...

Banksy print at BlackRatPress, by smellmyfinger on Jun 12, 2010 22:13:02 GMT 1, Respect to you FR. I take it by a Banksy print that it will not be one registered with Pest Control? I'm well up for a game of brinkmanship but I love this art thing too much to be messed around. Plus the fact I don't actually own one yet. I'll pm you my address if you can tell me the print you will be sending. I tell you what, if it is kosher I'll send you a cheque for £50 for a charity of your choice. Not a lot of cash I know, but I am very skint. If you want to stop here then fine with me and I will respect just as much. What do you think?
