Celebrity Art Collectors, by HRE on Oct 7, 2009 13:43:03 GMT 1, I just picked up one of these new free magazines in London called Stylist (same as the shortlist but for women)
It had a nice article in it about women collecting art in the back of it. worth a quick read. It mentioned Lilly Allen, Scarlett Johansson, Vivienne Westwood and of course Angelina Jolie spending ยฃ240,000 on 3 Banksy pieces, including the painting that shows a family enjoying a picnic while 15 staving Africans look on.
I also read in this weeks Time Out Mag an article with Damian Hirst he said that in the not to distant future that he wanted to release a ยฃ500 print. I would be up for that for sure

Ok...not hype. I'll elaborate. This type of thread is what's currently wrong with this scene. Why does it matter what celebrities collect art and what they collect? Threads like these deflect the interest away from art as art and toward art as status symbol/commodity.
