2005-2008 golden era?, by shosho on Apr 13, 2010 11:44:29 GMT 1, i feel that as much as i love art it feels a bit flat at the moment, i guess most of the artists that were coming up in 05' are all established now but i feel there was a certain vibe in the air from 05' - 08' (golden era) and im hoping there will be a new batch or artists to bring that vibe back not just the next banksy release! For me it's not just about individual artists but it's feeling your part of something special it just feels dead at the moment and no amount of purchases will change that. im not just talking about urban art either, contemporary art also feels the same i just hope that once this election is over and we totally out of this credit crunch bullshit (which isnt affecting people buying art anyhow) something special or someone will come along and sum up life in this new decade through their art just wondered if you guys agree and what made 05' - 08' special for you

2005-2008 golden era?, by walshy on Apr 13, 2010 12:13:20 GMT 1, I actually feel the opposite. For the last few days ive actually been thinking how lucky I am to be witnessing all of the Banksy stunts, from the robbo flirting to the amazing pieces he's put up over the last 6 months. We have people like Os gemeos creating top quality street work and installations, Barry Mcgee and Frost also smashing up the gallery environment. They are just a couple of examples, for me the list could go on .

2005-2008 golden era?, by angel41 on Apr 13, 2010 12:31:32 GMT 1, I think when a movement/scene grows to the size that this one has, it's easy to think of the earlier times as being more special when it wasn't as big.
I personally think the last couple of years have been pretty special with regards events/shows and also how the scene has expanded and evolved.
I think if you look back to 2008 - 2011 in 5 years time it will be just as golden as the time between 2005-2008. Nostalgia always exaggerates things. It's best not to think about these great times too much whilst they're happpening. Just enjoy it.

2005-2008 golden era?, by jones27 on Apr 13, 2010 13:19:56 GMT 1, I was thinking something similar the other day. Any releases worth getting excited about (with me its Faile) are generally way too over priced. The last decent print release was Jose Parla (but again $$$).
2005-2008 I will remember as being fresh, exciting and affordable.
