Flipping MP's, by idris on May 14, 2009 12:06:08 GMT 1, By the sounds of it, the art of flipping has been mastered by Members of Parliment long b4 'flipping of art'.
I just read some MP claiming ยฃ16k on a mortgage that had already been paid - I mean WTF!!!
Update
'Said' MP now suspended - Morley claims 'it was a mistake' !! One hell of a mistake - he should repay the amount in full including interest. Oh & then sack him for 'gross misconduct' him along with others.

Sorry i know I'm probably splitting hairs

Not sure he'd have the right to in the UK at least, being a French resident and all.
Power corrupts, and money corrupts absolutely. Heady cocktail when applied to MPs

Flipping MP's, by Daniel Silk on May 14, 2009 13:56:46 GMT 1, I cant remember if I had posted a link to this story before - www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/jonathanjonesblog/2009/may/08/labour-government-modern-art
"A while ago I went to see the Government Art Collection, where I was shown many old paintings currently in storage. When the Tories were in power, I was told, these 18th-century portraits were all the rage for ministers' offices. The current government has been more interested in modern art. I think I knew at that moment that New Labour was doomed."
Who's the buyer for this Government Art Collection?

Flipping MP's, by moleman on May 14, 2009 14:01:09 GMT 1, im afraid to say fry is more spot on than you think. Most self employed people claim for what ever they can and take the piss claiming office at home and getting money back for elec and telephone bills etc. I say that because my wife has done it and im sure many here have to. When you claim tax back that money comes from gov just like when mps claime xpencise . What this is doing is just keeping the sheeple amused while much more is going on. Think of the loss the gov etc loose evey day and we think nothing of it. eg worm wood scrubs has a court in it but judges wont use it to try offenders because they wont get in the media. This cost the uk tax payers approx 35,000 pounds a time. Would that be nice for your local school.#
Look we all for got about that guy and his massive pension and the money we gave to other countries wake up people fry is right stop panicing nothing will change

Not sure but they should be sacked immediately, and all the art should be auctioned off and put back into the public purse. Spending money and collecting art to give MPs something nice to look at with tax payers money is uttery piss taking, they're running the country not a fucking museum

I'm afraid to say he isn't in any way spot on. I've highlighted self employed in red here because MPs are a very different kettle of fish. They're employed by us, the clue is in the title, "civil servants", so claiming for kit kats or horse poo or a 3rd country home or whatever it is, simply isn't ethically right in any way.
Someone like Fry is no sort of spokesman on the rights or wrongs of MPs, just have a little think about who he might be associated with politically, and the sort of salary he might be on while huge numbers in the rest of the country struggle.

Flipping MP's, by moleman on May 14, 2009 14:17:05 GMT 1, if i was an electrician you would employ me to i would work for you and claim my lunch back. My wife worked for the met police getting paid x5 what an employee would get because she is talented the gov were paying her to. She also saved 5 million for them in the process andone guy took a jolly and lost it all because of fines from lateness to deliver because of it. Im not saying its right im saying the figures every one is getting on there high horse about is so small compaired to the loss going on in our country that no one seems to give a toss about day in and day out. Fry is not a spokes man it looks like he was asked about it at a function and he was making his veiws aware. I cant argue about salaries but im sure a large number of people here support a football team would you like to justify there salary

Flipping MP's, by Deleted on May 14, 2009 14:22:29 GMT 1, 1. MP's salaries should be decided by an independant body 2. Expenses should be a set 'living allowance' if they need to stay in London due to living to far away - again set by an independant body. 3.of course we can't justify footballers salaries, but they're not paid for out of my taxes

Flipping MP's, by richy00 on May 14, 2009 14:24:00 GMT 1, i dont see the whole problem with the expenses saga, everyone claims more than they can on the old expenses??? i went up to scotland for work, claim for a hotel, stayed with my mate and put a night out on my expenses too.. top job.. MP's are doing the same thing just on a grander scale, but they have rules to say mostly its OK..
putting the tories in instead of labour isnt going to do shit imo, the country is fucked yes, its going to be fucked for a while doesnt matter who is in power.. just got to live with it..

Flipping MP's, by Deleted on May 14, 2009 14:31:51 GMT 1, of course Moleman, the whole governmental system is awash with money being wasted- surely this is an opportunity to start opening eye's to all of that? We all knew to a certain extent this was going on, so opening eyes and questioning these institutions can only be a constructive process in the long run surely?

More outrage over a few hundred thousand where exactly?
Don't you remember the anti-Iraq war protests in 03? Or the May 1st protests this year? As far as I see it, this current story has generated an internal investigation, a few sackings in the pipeline, some money being paid back, and less than a week's worth of headlines
