Funny you should say that I've just read the latest article by Jones where he states he toyed with the idea of nominating Twombly for greatest living artist or Cartrain for his Hirst stunt

Banksy nominated for the Turner prize?, by jamesreeve5 on Apr 17, 2009 22:01:44 GMT 1,
I think Jones secretly does too, and Alsbabar would be secretly chuffed if Banksy were to be nominated for the Turner prize.
With that being said I think that Banksy might be heading towards the end of his tulip curve of popularity here and it could become a catalyst for some drastic changes in his personal artistic mindset, possibly taking his art to a new level. I don't know where it could go, but if anyone can break this style of art out of the basic parameters that it has been in for the last 25 years it will likely be Mr. Banks.

I have to disagree with you, Whilst Banky's 'reign of terror on what constituted art by an established order may now be behind him History has shown us that if it is to subversive or threatening to that order BUY IT. I doubt Banks will be making any more break through's. His work is already showing all the hallmarks of a comfy lifestyle

Banksy nominated for the Turner prize?, by outandabout on Apr 19, 2009 14:06:57 GMT 1, What are the hallmarks of a comfy lifestyle? Banksy is early/mid 30's? still quite a young age for an artist. I think he has far more to give.

The hallmarks of a cosy lifestyle are plain to see in his current works, and as i said before i doubt Banksy will be making any further revolutionary breakthroughs nor i think does he care to ? The Cans festival was not exactly in keeping with the spirit of street art. Its efforts like that show the movement has been tamed sanitized and ready for distribution to the masses

Getting a load of street artists together to create a load of art on the street is not in the spirit of street art? hmmmm.....

kinda of see whare you're coming from, but GA alot of what Banksy has always stood for was about taking art of the gallery and therefore out of system that pushed the common man aside - surely Cans was an example of this?
Also what's your opinion on the pet store? - in principle of the usual line of work and style very different I'd say

Banksy nominated for the Turner prize?, by funyoung on Apr 20, 2009 16:55:43 GMT 1, what Jonathon Jones doesnt get is Banksy doesnt need the Turner Prize, like he needs some stuffy curator or museum director to laud over him to acknowledge his greatness. His comments, even though he tried to say it isnt, proves again how the Turner prize is dictated by and influenced by art dealers and their galleries, you just have to look at previous Jurors to see that. What Jonathon Jones doesnt get is, how big a following Banksy has, especially for a person who is "no longer hot'. Which of the eserved nominees makes a difference to the world we live in? Which of the nominees gets the pulse of the everyday person who's world doesnt evolve around museum's and art galleries? Which of the nominees is actively involved in helping charitable causes? What Jonathon Jones has shown is how pathetic the Turner Prize really is and how little importance it is in the real world, where real people live.
Sorry but how do yo know who the nominees are? (The Tate has not, to the best of my knowledge, announced them yet)
Or are you just spouting off before putting your brain into gear?

Not when its contrived and heavily concentrated in a space thats looked over by security with a two hour queue NO. That to me is not in keeping with the spirit of Street art. Jean Dubuffet was the first to see the potential of the neurotic, quirky eccentric values contained in street pieces and became an avid collector for those reasons And although much of the work at Cans was of a high standard executed by some leading names, having such a concentration of crowbarred in contrived arrangements removed that quality and contributes to devaluing, and stands for everything i dislike about authorities giving it their stamp of approval. Bad move Banksy
