Takashi Murakami London Show, by mjar on Jan 28, 2009 18:10:14 GMT 1, Not sure if this has been posted already!
Gagosian Gallery announces an exhibition of new paintings by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami.
Beneath its bright and playful appearance, Murakami's art deftly challenges the established dichotomies of high art and popular culture, East and West, present and past, life and death, humor and gravity, skepticism and belief. Visually, his work merges the dystopic worlds of popular animรฉ and manga cartoons with the ultra-refined techniques of traditional Nihonga painting.
The show will run from FEBRUARY 10th until APRIL 9th
Gasosian Gallery | 17-19 Davies Street | London www.gagosian.com/

Takashi Murakami London Show, by mjar on Jan 29, 2009 19:06:38 GMT 1, It's an exhibition of new paintings so I imagine there will be no prints for sale.
And as rsyok said will be great to "see the painting in the flesh"

Takashi Murakami London Show, by daveart on Jan 30, 2009 15:10:39 GMT 1, For those interested.. i had emailed the gallery regarding what might be available at the show. below is what I received back:
** We will likely have some form of merchandise/prints during the run of the exhibition. The actual items for sale have not been determined yet and will be available at Davies Street when the show opens. Should you wish more information once the show is running, please do not hesitate to send me an e-mail and I shall be able to send you prices and availability. In the meantime we have various woodblock edition prints from 2007 and 2008, including "I am not me. I cannot become myself," "I open wide my eyes but see no scenery. I fix my gaze upon my heart," "In the heartโs eye, a universe," "My arms and legs rot off and though my blood rushes forth, the tranquility of my heart shall be prized above all," "That I may time transcend, that a universe my heart may unfold". These range in price from $15,000-$20,000. Please let me know if you are interested. Kind regards, Lisa
**
so there ya go. if you have 15K you are in business. otherwise.. will be interesting to see if they have any prints for mere mortals at the show.

Takashi Murakami London Show, by G-Man on Feb 12, 2009 12:09:22 GMT 1, I love his work but it does sound a little disappointing that his opportunity to showcase his work in the Uk is limited to only a few pieces
It would have been better for him to affiliate himself to a larger gallery perhaps who could have put together a larger show. His work is under represented on the scene here, his style is pretty unique in this country with not that many hangers on trying to copy this style successfully.
With a larger show and perhaps a print release in the UK he could see his popularity soar as he makes many of the prints that are released look pretty amatuer
Only my opinion for what its worth

I have a couple of the "and then" prints, one in yellow and one in the blue that i got from baltic - would be happy to trade if anyone was wanting one or both but not wanting to fork out the cash. mint condition (the missus doesn't like them!)
pm me if you're interested - would be interested in a banksy or micallef (eyestorm japanese influenced prints) and can add/accept cash were necessary.

Very true but IMO restricts to a certain audience, not that he needs to widen his audience any but his stuff would be accessible for many more ppl i reckon?
