SELLING ESTIMATES FOF MORONS , by bond on Apr 12, 2007 9:14:48 GMT 1, Hi all
Just killing time in between random hits of the old F5 button , yes i'm still doing it !! as still not over the fact that i had 5 serpias in the basket ( not at the same time of course ! ) and lost them all to crap web connections
- So bearing in mind that most seem to have held off selling at the moment i reckon the day the prints arrve there will be a deluge of sellers champing at the bit to offload.
With that in mind although annoying that so many of us missed out it could be the best time to pick one up from the fleecers.
My guess is that the first few will go for a lot more than those selling after a week or so. There is always a bit of panic from some who must have the print
So ( maybe hopefully ) i guess that after a week or so we'll see a levelling out for a while
SEPIA ยฃ 1,700
REGULAR SIGNED ยฃ1,400
UNSIGNED ยฃ 450
Any thoughts ?
;D

SELLING ESTIMATES FOF MORONS , by ยฉhief' on Apr 12, 2007 9:37:03 GMT 1, Bond, I think you have undervalued the signed prints. Recent Ebay sales have 2 sepia prints sold at just a few quid under ยฃ3K. Reckon it will level out to about ยฃ2.2K to ยฃ2.5K with unsigned ยฃ550 ish. That's just my speculation...... Who knows ??

SELLING ESTIMATES FOF MORONS , by ABC on Apr 12, 2007 9:38:18 GMT 1, I think you will be bang on. The difference between the rest and these is the fact that there are going to be so many listed soon. There are only so many collectors and galleries who are going to pay 4k for a print, average joe cannot afford that sort of money. It has been the same for all of the prints listed over the last 6 months, they start hight and then drop in the first few months. The only one I can think of that hasnt is FF by Micallef that started high and stayed high. Im agreeing with you becuase Im hoping to snap one up, More than likely and unsigned though but I will bide my time.

SELLING ESTIMATES FOF MORONS , by bond on Apr 12, 2007 9:41:33 GMT 1, hi there , this was just my valuation based upon the volume of prints i think will hit ebay.
As everyone will be getting them about the same time ( whenever that is ! ) i think that unlike with applause , grannies etc where there usually only one signed print on at any time we could see maybe 20 + signed and therefore a slight price depression just until the initial rush to sell has passed.
I've no doubt that in about 4 - 6 weeks the prices will pick up with signed reaching about ยฃ 2.5 k +
Just thinking it ' could ' be a good time to pick up a signed at a slightly lower level
cheers ! ;D

SELLING ESTIMATES FOF MORONS , by paulah on Apr 12, 2007 10:16:09 GMT 1, I'd be surprised to see any signed Banksy going for less than ยฃ2k these days - even if it has just been released and the are a glut on ebay. When Grannies and Applause came out that was when most of the ebay activity started - and I think signeds were going for around ยฃ2.5k (somebody here will know)
I'd go with madam manchestermike's crystal ball ...

I see where you're coming from (the crystal ball really does help) but I can't see big rises in the unsigned myself - think the old ones will still obviously go for more (GWB etc) BUT it's going to take a long while for the new ones to rise to anything like those levels.

SELLING ESTIMATES FOF MORONS , by paulah on Apr 12, 2007 10:45:22 GMT 1, can you feel it in your waters?!
Interestingly this is probably the first release where there would have been far more demand for signed than unsigned - as everyone gets swept up in the 'value' thing.

Hi Paulah
I think the demand for the signed has always been there but this release/edition has brought three times as many signed copies on to the market than previous editions. Unlike many on here i think that they they will be worth less as i can see the market will be flooded with people looking for a quick buck but thats my opinion and what do i know at the end of the day. hence the amount of conjecture attached to this release.

SELLING ESTIMATES FOF MORONS , by RBK on Apr 12, 2007 15:09:52 GMT 1, Had to weigh in. I think that there will be a difference in the Sepia vs. White Signed from the beginning.
And for all the people that think the market will be flooded... the numbers don't lie. I've tracked sales of some unsigned prints from Barely Legal and these are how many have actually sold on Ebay: Applause: 66/500 = 13.2% Flags: 69/1000 = 6.9%
I'm sure if the more stat-obsessed weigh in we will find that only 10-15% of unsigned LA prints of a given edition find their way to Ebay. Signficantly less when talking about signed.
First few: Sepia: ยฃ2.9k White Signed: ยฃ2.5k Unsigned: ยฃ650
Few weeks time: Sepia: ยฃ2.5k White Signed: ยฃ2.1k Unsigned: ยฃ525
Few months time (say 3 months) Sepia: ยฃ3k - ยฃ3.5k White Signed: ยฃ2.5k Unsigned: ยฃ500
6 months time: Sepia: ยฃ4k White Signed: ยฃ3k Unsigned: ยฃ550
12 months time: Sepia: ยฃ4.5k White Signed: ยฃ3.5k Unsigned: ยฃ550
BONJOUR

SELLING ESTIMATES FOF MORONS , by RBK on Apr 12, 2007 15:35:32 GMT 1, I go back to my consistent saying of "You should not be buying art as an investment unless you are extremely liquid / have big net-worth."
Buy art because you enjoy it, will derive happiness from it hanging on your walls, and be happy if in years time it is worth exactly what you paid for it. Investing is for the stock market.

SELLING ESTIMATES FOF MORONS , by slowmo on Apr 12, 2007 15:50:42 GMT 1, Interesting, I would have thought white signed would be the one to go up, all signed are bought in secondary market for investment purpose, otherwise if you like the image you would buy a unsigned, as it will still cost you double what you would have paid on picking it up from POW.
On that line of thought I would have figured Sepia would be the cheaper signed of the two as there are twice as many available. Will be interesting to see which one of the two ends up on top. Great tracking by the way Rob.

SELLING ESTIMATES FOF MORONS , by paulah on Apr 12, 2007 16:00:32 GMT 1, That's interesting - about the numbers ending up on ebay. I was thinking it's not as many as people think.
I wonder if there might be less of Morons as buyers are scared that POW will ban them - they might be planning to hold on - at least for a decent interval (whatever that is!)

SELLING ESTIMATES FOF MORONS , by sindekat on Apr 12, 2007 17:41:55 GMT 1, the pricing estimates look good. i would be very interested to see the speculation on 3yr and 5yr prices. i am new to banksy but i collect a ton of urban vinyl. im liking art more now because the market is more stable and less prone to hype...even though you have your share here
