three new pieces - for feedback, by Deleted on Jan 15, 2009 1:01:54 GMT 1, The canvas needs a bit more work and the self portrait is not my cup of tea.
I do like those eyes the best of the bunch for me.
keep it up

three new pieces - for feedback, by badboy73 on Jan 15, 2009 15:24:21 GMT 1, Thanks all for your positive feedback and constructive critisism. It looks like the eyes have it (ahem, 'cuse the pun) maybe I try and do a few more.
MikeeP: sorry, no my initials are not J.R. You'll be surprised just how many rotund, bespectacled, spikey haired, bearded gents there are (we're everywhere!)
Wizbong: I like the idea that it's a muffin (very English), but it could be a sausage. Originally it was ment to be a mashmallow but that was too small. The burning lady however, is the Vietnamese buddist monk that during the vietnam conflict dowsed himself in petrol and set himself alight in protest to the goings on in his country. The image was made made famous again by Rage Against the Machine on their first album artwork. I'm not sure what I was trying to say with the piece, but (arty, cynical, b*llsh!t validation time) I think it's about indifference, and how we seem to be living in a consumer lead, greedy culture that is indifferent to others. The lad toasting his muffin has become desenortised by the media and western culture and is indifferent to the suffering of the monk, just seeing him as a means to toasting his muffin - or something like that.
ikkeno: I did not use 'live trace' in illustrator (I do not have a copy, is it worth getting?). The image of the burning monk is taken from the internet, printed out to the size i wanted and hand traced on to acetate. I then cut it out by hand and sprayed up in my garage. Start to finish it probably took about 6 hours.
dellboyy: always a pleasure to hear from you and thanks for the coin tip. Do you use spray adhesive? I've just check out you shop and I'm loving ...and the Angel of Shadows Shall Reign.
Thanks again

three new pieces - for feedback, by schlomo on Jan 15, 2009 17:24:28 GMT 1, Easy BB et al. I agree with the above posts matey, eyes are wicked. I like the idea for the top one, but needs a bit more detail to bring it to life man. Just as an idea, maybe have the guy lighting a cigarette rather than toasting something?? or make it a little kid toasting it, and have the toasting fork higher so its in the flame more..... Just thoughts tho man, like the ideas as always.....
Totally agree Dell, Fakes stencils are scandalously clean! gonna try some of that adhesive technique when i get back in the lock up....
