Hewlett/ Monkey Opera Tickets for a fiver. Link., by guest2 on Dec 20, 2008 11:14:24 GMT 1, Has anyone actually seen this? It seems to be all over the press yet you can buy tickets for ยฃ5 for todays show in the best block too!!! Is it that bad? Will I ruin the start of the kids xmas holidays if I drag them along to this?
Please advise

Hewlett/ Monkey Opera Tickets for a fiver. Link., by romanywg on Dec 20, 2008 11:18:53 GMT 1, Yes Frankie it is that bad. I didn't return for second half. It was boiling hot in the tent and the whole opera has subtitles which for me were hard to read as they were obscured by scaffolding. The main characters voice was irritating and the songs were poor. My daughter who is well into the Gorillaz and Animee thought it poor too and only returned for the second half in the hope that it would pick up, which it didn't.

Hewlett/ Monkey Opera Tickets for a fiver. Link., by bert on Dec 20, 2008 11:33:04 GMT 1, I saw it at the Royal Opera House and thought it was fantastic, very nice visuals, costumes, sets and I liked the music too. Didn't have the probs with heat and obscured subtitles that romanywg had. Not been to the O2 to see it though. Definitely worth a punt for a fiver in my book, the acrobatics, dancing and colours should keep the kids entertained IMO.

Hewlett/ Monkey Opera Tickets for a fiver. Link., by robinbanks on Dec 20, 2008 11:50:08 GMT 1, I have to disagree with Romany...
While I didn't think it was as good as I had hoped I still enjoyed it. I saw it at the Royal Opera House - the tickets weren't cheap but I still thought it was fairly good value for money. Didn't have any issues with subtitles. I thought the music was great, the costumes were good, the sets and the lighting were top notch - just thought the story in general was a bit lacking.
It has received rave reviews in the press and most people I know that have seen it enjoyed it so I would guess that Romany is in the minority. Still, you can't really go wrong for a fiver.
Do it I say - what's the worst that could happen?

Hewlett/ Monkey Opera Tickets for a fiver. Link., by dodge on Dec 20, 2008 12:04:02 GMT 1, It's awful. Fun for about five minutes then dull. Best part was where one of the trapeze artists got his legs tangled up and had to be pulled over to the side in a comedy manner.

Infact I dashed into the West End on the train and went to Forbidden Planet to get a book for my daughter which turned out to be the wrong book.
I thought the opening 10 minutes were amazing and it would have been great if it continued in that vein but to me it all went downhill from there.

For five quid you might as well go and make your own mind up.
I thought that all in all it was pretty cool.

Hewlett/ Monkey Opera Tickets for a fiver. Link., by edcase on Dec 21, 2008 16:57:35 GMT 1, Saw it first time around at ROH and it was amazing, can't imagine it will have the same ambience at O2 but for a fiver you can't complain.
