Suggestions? , by raiden on Dec 11, 2008 22:24:08 GMT 1, What are you into? I.e. aesthetically how big, what type of art, who are the artists you like?
What is the purpose of it? Merely investment not to hang on your wall (I know that's blasphemy to some), to hang in your office, to hang in the living room?
You really need to give me more to go on because there are a lot of deals to be had out there for ยฃ180.
My personal advice though, is to hold onto the cash and wait for a couple more months because some really great artists have seen the bottom fall out of their markets and several others are going in that direction too.
Last night, a Banksy "Girl with Balloon" went on Ebay for 50% its highest price.
In this market, I'm telling everyone to buy solely based on what you like - and be a secondary market vulture - because prices will keep slipping well into 2009 and very, very few pieces are selling for higher than their gallery price! Its a great time to start taking gambles on originals by recently emerging artists who had the rug pulled out from under them by the economy.
The good thing too, it feels like a lot of the hype has gone out of the art market and the only artists who are seeing any appreciation are those coming out with solid shows and are exhibiting improvement in their work that justifies the appreciation - namely Eelus.

I bought it a while back and have had it framed up on my wall for some time, but its about to be replaced with Eelus's new print. Could do it for ยฃ100 or ยฃ175 in the frame (framed by the Newgate Gallery in Clerkenwell).....

Forget about the names and go with your taste.

I like this idea! Also PM'd some other possibilities, but for the sakes of the artists, I'll repeat part of what I said in here too. I'm sure that the likes of Grafter, DOC, Replete, Neverwork, Rourke and/or any of the other forum artists who take your fancy, would love receiving a PM with a budget related enquiry. They're all genuine guys producing art for a living (or trying to), so why not drop them a PM?
Oh and the Allison Torneros print for $50 + s+h will save you a few quid too, if that's your thing.
I'm off to find my local art colleges!
