Gorillapod, by fuzzed on Dec 11, 2008 22:06:50 GMT 1, A little off topic but I know there are some keen photographers on here. I'm looking to buy a Joby Gorillapod SLR for my dad for xmas. Can anyone recommend any where to buy one online or high street for a good price?
And are these things any good?! The reviews I read suggest they are.

I borrowed a mates and cant say i loved it, though in fairness i should have given it a fair trial.Does his type of photography warrant this device, if he could get away with someone more convential i think Manfrotto sp? basic packs can be had for sub ยฃ50

Gorillapod, by fuzzed on Dec 11, 2008 22:20:06 GMT 1, Cheers for the info mate, he already has a more conventional tripod, was thinking of buying it for him for more of the novelty value (hopefully useful novelty though!) He travels abroad a fair bit so I thought it might be more useful that his conventional tripod. Are they large?

Gorillapod, by darrenrapley on Dec 11, 2008 22:20:34 GMT 1, Although I agree with CuriousGeorge in that does the photography warrant it? I have used it for holding the camera to a tree for example, but on the whole a tripod is prob better

See above for original post. He does do a lot of countryside walking, photography which is where I also thought it might come in useful?

Look at the models at the bottom of the page, I'm guessing he would get more use out of one these compared to the Gorillapod. Only damn thing about Manfrotto is you keep wanting to upgrade!

Gorillapod, by fuzzed on Dec 13, 2008 19:00:24 GMT 1, I just wanted to let you know I picked up the SLR Joby Gorillapod today from Asda of all places. Forget the online shops selling them for ยฃ30-40, it was ยฃ16 odd. Not bad eh!
