Signed Banksy Art Wanted. NYC Gallery. , by jam on May 4, 2007 8:38:00 GMT 1, Brooklyn Gothic - Williamsburg’s Saved looks back to the nineteenth century for clothes and furniture with a dark touch.
By Ariana Speyer
Among other things, this article mentions... 'If Edgar Allan Poe had gone into retail, he might have come up with Saved. Although I don’t think anyone is bricked up in its walls, this cozy new store (82 Berry Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn; 718-388-5990) has a delicious sense of mystery. At the very least, a feverish imagination is at work behind the mix of objets on display. The vogue for handicraft in art and fashion finds a charming home here, as everything from clothing to furniture is customized. A twenties chaise longue is not only beautifully restored but also has new artisanal upholstery (gray Valentino suiting fabric, to be exact) and a distinctive silhouette patch of a bird. Though there are no rugs for sale—yet—Saved is a fledgling ABC Carpet & Home for hipsters who like their creature comforts with a touch of goth.'
If this is the correct Saved Gallery in NY (the only one listed in the NYC directory or on Google) then it doesn't exactly sound like anything by Banksy would seem to fit your motif!

xdawnx,
Given that your gallery is a "professional organization" which takes its "reputation very seriously", it would be helpful to receive a response to the valid points bobbymeachamjr has raised.
Why not provide additional details of the gallery? Your post would be taken more seriously and elicit greater interest if you did. As it stands, it just comes across as suspect.
Can you confirm the address of the gallery? Does it have a telephone number? Surely it must have a website, or its own email address?

Signed Banksy Art Wanted. NYC Gallery. , by xdawnx on May 4, 2007 17:07:56 GMT 1, Hey there! Sorry I didn't reply right away, the post was made late and I slept in.
Yes the Saved Gallery is in Williamsburg (#3 Hope Street on the Corner of Hope & Roebling). Allow me to address the questions/concerns (as trust me, I realize how awkward this is and I hate being in the position to do it).
Every year the Seul Contre Tous organization does a charity calendar with various celebrity photographers/artists and models from all over, to benefit various charities (this year it was for breast cancer research). This year the calendar was photographed by celebrity photographer Dale May.
We do an annual art show as a "calendar launch" in the fall and it features various works by celebrities, fine artists, grafitti artists, etc. All backgrounds. I can assure you it is completely legit and is highly-covered through various media (television/magazines) across the world. The gallery show is also listed on the Juxtapoz website and various other outlets (if you're interested in fact-checking).
Works featured by: Partial list of participants: Horiyoshi III (Japan), Filip Leu (Switzerland), Grime, Chris Garver, Aaron Coleman, Adrian Lee, Alife, Ben Tour, Brad Fink, Chris O'Donnell, Chris Conn, David Stoupakis, Derek Hess, Eduardo Benedetto, Gunnar, Horitaka (japan), Horiyuki (japan), Jeff Rasier, Jeff Whitehead, Kevin Leblanc, Matthew Bone, Paul Romano, Robert Hardgrave, RoStarr , Scott Campbell, Scott Silvia, Shawn Barber, Shepard Fairey, Stephen Kasner, Steve Buscemi, Tim Biederon, Zema and many many others.
We were approached by an individual in England who had "Napalm" signed artist proofs who was wanting to sell them in the show. Of course we agreed, printed all of the materials listing Banksy, etc. released them to various media outlets/magazines, and yesterday he sent me an email informing me that he does not want to sell them nor even have them displayed. Why? Don't know. We had the signed contracts and release of sale on file. So now I have to work through that.
Since our goal is raising awareness to the charities we support, we are no longer focusing on selling a Banksy piece for $$$ for the charity, but rather on simply HAVING a Banksy piece on display (as it will undoubtedly be a draw for the rest of the show). We are willing to sell the item for an individual as a "thank you" for allowing us to display the piece in the show (and thus helping us 'save face') and are even trying to assist the largest sale value possible.
Our show last year attracted a lot of big name celebrities (ie. buyers) and this year is panning out to be no exception.
While the show itself isn't until September, if any of you have worked in the gallery scene (especially in New York), you must have everything done at least a year in advance, especially for press releases/publications. Naturally we could pull the Banksy listing, but it is already out in the ether as it were and it's difficult to retract a name like that.
As I do not work for the Gallery full time, but volunteer in assisting the curatorial aspect of the art show, I do not have a "saved gallery" email address. I do however work full time at Playboy in publications, but didn't really find it necessary to list my work email. Yes, my gmail is my personal email but it's the most efficient way to contact me directly, as it's synched with my Treo...
The gallery has just been moved to a bigger space adjacent to Scott Campbell (the owner's) work studio, and there is no URL listed for the gallery directly (as they are negotiating issues with the previous mentioned "saved" in williamsburg. I'm out of the loop on that sorry I can't provide more extensive details). We are remodeling the Seul Contre Tous website as we speak to reflect the 2008 calendar/events, and once this ordeal is straightened out it will be back online.
We decided to post on the Banksy forum, as obviously this is where the people who want to move their prints frequent. Was it our ideal situation? Obviously not, but we figured we'd put the opportunity out there if someone was interested. A "last stab" as it were to see if we could work something out before pulling the Banksy listing all together.
I appreciate all of the individuals who *HAVE* emailed me with questions, and I hope this answers as many as possible (without bringing up more).
*deep breath*

go with your instincts, but i wouldn't send a postcard myself, call it gut feeling yeah.
i don't know you and i hope this post doesn't sound too OTT but i wouldn't entrust my mum with my prized possesions yet alone someone i've never met in another country, regardless of any contract.
no sale.

LOL.
Tough crowd tonight, xdawnx.
I suppose you know the score. Too many fraudsters about. Assuming you are genuine, I hope you will not be offended by the more world-weary and cynical members of this Forum.
Perhaps you could lend greater credence to your request by providing contact details for the gallery's owner. Does he know you are posting here, presumably on his behalf?
I am also interested in hearing your response to lesbianwednesdays' query regarding your own contacts in New York. Have those contacts already been exhausted?

Well to answer your question, the other three individuals putting on the show *are* higher profile individuals who do not want their information released to strangers (namely the Banksy buying public), nor do they have time to deal with it. I'm sure it could have been pawned off on their assistants, but they'd just be in the same position I am. So what's the difference? Those individuals who have contacted me directly via email have been given their names, and references were provided.
Trust me, do you think I *want* to be in this position to be posting on a Banksy forum to strangers for them to judge/criticize/analyze everything I say? I don't. haha. I'm doing it for the charity, and putting my personal ego aside for the moment.
Secondly, we are well-connected individuals, but no one that we are connected with WANT to sell their Banksy pieces. Thus, the conundrum, the very last option is to just have someone's piece on display and remove it from the sale catalog. Not very fun though is it? We're just trying to exercise our options.
Look I am fully aware of the fraudster, wackjobs and flakes out there. An individual such as that is the one who put me in this position in the first place.
And I think you should be less suspicious of me, and sort out your relationship with your mum if that's your opinion of her. Mother's Day is coming soon after all.
At any rate, it's all been overwhelming in the past 14-18 hours. I appreciate the mass correspondence from individuals. And want to say Thank You to everyone who has been willing to help out.

Congrats, and good luck with the show, saw it listed on Juxtapoz recently. The show is late september right ? is it an auction or straight sale ? be good if you could initiate an online sale. I'm sure there'd be lots of interest.
If you get stuck re Banksy again, PM me, I know a good few people in NYC with Banksy's.

At any rate, not trusting anyone seems rather sad and jaded. I own artwork far older and more valuable than a Banksy print, and if anything should happen to me, my mother is the first person it's going to.

Thanks so much. I've had two really reputable people contact us and we're going to try and help them both out. I'll keep you in mind though or if you know anyone in the city, please have them contact me (xdawnx@gmail.com). The names of the other organizers involved will be much easier to explain to someone in the city directly.
The show is in late september (sept. 29-nov. 1st) There is going to be an online auction the week preceeding the opening, which will then just be straight sale. The terms are going to be a little varied for the Banksy folks.

i do trust people, most people in fact. i don't think you quite comprehend what some things mean to some people, that's not meant to belittle you, just trying to give you an idea of the esteem in which certain things are held.
it's nothing personal and i wish you every success in what must be a sticky situation, all i was trying to do was to quantify the emotional attatchment that most owners apply to their banksy's
all the best, tom.

Actually it's May 13th here. At any rate, not trusting anyone seems rather sad and jaded. I own artwork far older and more valuable than a Banksy print, and if anything should happen to me, my mother is the first person it's going to. If anything happens to your mother before then, can I have it ?

Signed Banksy Art Wanted. NYC Gallery. , by numusic on May 4, 2007 20:19:19 GMT 1, Congrats, and good luck with the show, saw it listed on Juxtapoz recently. The show is late september right ? is it an auction or straight sale ? be good if you could initiate an online sale. I'm sure there'd be lots of interest. If you get stuck re Banksy again, PM me, I know a good few people in NYC with Banksy's. The terms are going to be a little varied for the Banksy folks.
will do, feel free to pop back in here and refresh peoples memories before the sale starts..I'm sure there'd be interest. Have you considered other street artists from NYC, Faile, Swoon, Bast, Logan Hicks etc.. would all generate a lot of interest.
