i.e. in a run of say 600 the signed items would be 1-100 or 1-150.
Is this always the case?

If I'm not mistaken J&J had 350 signed and 350 unsigned, which is a bit different from the usual format of 500+150 or 600+150 for non signed vs. signed prints. I believe prints are normally separate editions. I say that because I have seen many unsigned prints with low numbers.
