"I wanted to make art that questioned our relationship with animals and the ethics and sustainability of factory farming, but it ended up as chicken nuggets singing."
now ignoring the funny throw away gag about dancing nuggets im wondering bout the first part of the statement and its impact on his fans, has this made you question your relationship with animals,has it made you change anything or should we discuss if the new burger at mcdonalds is better than the last one ?

If this Pet Store makes just one person change his / her attitude to animal welfare to the better then that a result in my book.

That new burger at McDonalds is awful, as are pretty much all McDonalds burgers. GBK however is outstanding though.
I try and buy/eat organic meat, eggs etc whenever I can do anyhow...

GBK is good but its a bit on the pricey side, a big tasty with bacon meal, large, with an extra cheese burger.. if it wasnt so bad for me i would eat macdonalds everyday, ..

I personally think peoples attitudes towards Banksy is becoming pathetic. People make him out to be some sort of deity. And don't be under the misconception that he is some great philosopher/scientist who knows something we don't. You said yourself about the poodle and the rich bitch. I think that sounds like bullshit no offence intended. I'm not saying it is I'm just saying it sounds like it.
Does this then make Jamie Oliver an artist and Banksy a rip off merchant? I personally think it makes him someone that has become so big now that he is now in the position to peddle any old load of shit. If Banksy really is concerned for the little animals then he is not the guy i thought he was. 'Blonde's of a certain age' springs to mind!

Well if mcdonalds used better sources and cooking methods maybe you could eat it every day.For example nutrishionists tell us to eat chicken as its a lean and willhelp us stay fit and healthy but most of the chicken reared is fed a very unhealthy diet and kept in conditions where it cant exercise so is in it self unhealthy.
You can belive food is food if you want but i prefer you are what you eat and if you eat fat unhealthy animals then that is what you will become

I didn't say you called him a deity. I said people make him out to be a deity. I agree with your sentiments to a degree as i also respect his opinion. All im saying is, is that i have lost respect for him given the subject matter he now seems to be tartgeting

I personally think this whole episode brings banksy out in his true colours. By his subject matter it is obvious that he is a a true omnivour who is willing to eat anything once. From the elephant in the room, to the cheeta thats now a coat, I feel that Banksy is saying quite alot about his prefered diet.
As for being a scientist/philosopher im not sure if thats quite true. Yes he has a good eye for the obvious flaws in our society, and likes a good political joke with the rest of us, but im sure that behind the scenes he is just busy making a new menu with a wild and exotic species on it....I hear he is quite close to Lord Bath and even has an account for past away animals from longleat to be delivered to his mayfair address.

Although i didnt eat meat for a long long time way back when ive never been convinced by this argument,i think that welfare wise its better for us to want good humane abottoirs.I remeber watching Ramsey on telly when he took his pigs in and they did the first while the other was stood there and it didnt react at all. I was really suprised,i thought the second pig would freak out when the first one got stunned right in front of it and it made me realise that a good slaughter man was as humane as you could get whilst killing something.
I could kill a chicken but i think it would be a lot crueller than letting a pro do it properley.

If I'm honest with myself nothing in the show made me change what I thought about the process of manufactured meat. It may have helped raise awareness to those uneducated in the mystery of where chicken nuggets came from. To me it was stating the obvious in a witty way only Banksy can do best.
The only questions I raised was from the cynical side of me...
Surely the show has a price tag?
and if so, all the proceeds should go towards helping these animals?
Without this final part of the equation then the exploitation of the suffering of animals is only shifted towards someone else standing to make a monetary gain.
Though my art loving side won the battle against all my cynical questions and enjoyed the spectacle as a truly innovative and fun visual experience 
So its a couple of weeks since the pet store opened in New York,banksy posted this statement about it "I wanted to make art that questioned our relationship with animals and the ethics and sustainability of factory farming, but it ended up as chicken nuggets singing." now ignoring the funny throw away gag about dancing nuggets im wondering bout the first part of the statement and its impact on his fans, has this made you question your relationship with animals,has it made you change anything or should we discuss if the new burger at mcdonalds is better than the last one ? If I'm honest with myself nothing in the show made me change what I thought about the process of manufactured meat. It may have helped raise awareness to those uneducated in the mystery of where chicken nuggets came from. To me it was stating the obvious in a witty way only Banksy can do best. The only questions I raised was from the cynical side of me... Surely the show has a price tag? and if so, all the proceeds should go towards helping these animals? Without this final part of the equation then the exploitation of the suffering of animals is only shifted towards someone else standing to make a monetary gain. Though my art loving side won the battle against all my cynical questions and enjoyed the spectacle as a truly innovative and fun visual experience |

Does it matter to you what banksy thinks?, by wallybanks on Oct 21, 2008 12:55:14 GMT 1, I agree that it is best for animals to be slaughtered in an efficient and humane manner but think the production of meat is so far removed from the majority of consumers that people never have to think about the origin of what arrives at the dinner table.
Yes i think youre right and this discussion is making me realise how lucky i am i know most of the farms my butcher uses and could visit the slaughterhouse if i wanted and getting back to that poor chicken im going to kill when i go up the farm to buy one for this week i can see next months dinner running around having a time with his mates.
I do remember years back though when i didnt eat meat having to cook a chicken for the rest of the squat because nobody could face touching it so yes very detatched from the process most people.

I personally think it makes him someone that has become so big now that he is now in the position to peddle any old load of s**t. If Banksy really is concerned for the little animals then he is not the guy i thought he was. 'Blonde's of a certain age' springs to mind! I think even 'Blondes of a certain age' can't afford these puppets, 500k upwards is the word on the street. but who knows, it's all rumors and gossip from friends of friends of groupies.
