Help please? THANKS and the end...?, by slowmo on Aug 11, 2008 21:21:51 GMT 1, Just looked very closely with the cutter line on the image with mine, this looks good mate. Ask for his full name and address at time of purchase, set up an email address that is loosely related to his name, then email POW pretending to be this fella, if the email confirms the name, its prov and more importantly puts your mind at ease.

Printing presses. Seriously though, you will at least have his address if he is at home and he does say he offers a refund if its found to be dodgy (although he is the first owner). Trust your gut feeling!.

Help please? THANKS and the end...?, by manty on Aug 12, 2008 1:49:22 GMT 1, He said he didnt have a reciept, he says its genuine or your money back, he is letting you collect from his house.
You got it at a good price
I think you should just pay up and enjoy the print, you bidded for it, won it, you should complete the deal, the time for questions was during the auction not after.
Have a nice day :-)

Help please? THANKS and the end...?, by jakek on Aug 12, 2008 6:37:08 GMT 1, He has sold another print without any provenance. Not saying that means much, probably just coincidence - it looks qood.
If he's the original owner and it's a low print number there's every chance he bought them having no idea what their value would be worth and so didn't think about keeping receipts. At the time i'd bought a few pieces from the Greenleaf bookshop in bristol and the best you could hope for there was a till receipt as provenance (i don't even know if they had their name on them).
I would say i prefer Bomb Middle England and Have a Nice Day from this series.

Help please? THANKS and the end...?, by nixon451 on Aug 12, 2008 17:12:56 GMT 1, Perhaps I am old school, but considering you won the auction I think you should just pay the man.
I always thought you were supposed to ask questions before bidding, but what do I know.

As is the case with my Bomb Hugger from Tom Tom. In fact I would be very surprised, if anybody at the time had wanted prov for a £50 unsigned print, that had been bought with no intention to sell and to stick up on your wall

Help please? THANKS and the end...?, by G-Man on Aug 12, 2008 19:57:26 GMT 1, Hey guys thanks for all your input I really appreciate it thats what the forum is all about
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
The end of the story goes like this......
I called Lawrence at AR to try and authenticate but Lawrence being Lawrence (you know ) was a bit vague about the older prints sayin that they didn't keep a database of these early prints...
I spoke to Dora who said that it looked OK but couldnt be sure and thought that this early a number should have been signed really.....
I spoke to a mate who reminded me about the early non-blind-stamped prints with fake receipts from AR which were good fakes.......
I spoke to the seller who was sure about the genuine-ness of the print as it was in an early AR frame did have no prov and got it as a gift gave me his address and said that if it didn't check out with Dora that he'd refund all my cash and I could collect in person....
Then I arranged that I would pay thro PP and a mate of mine would pick up in person tmw in Brighton......
Then I get a call from the seller saying that it all seems like a lot of complications and he's now paranoid aout the print being fake, doesn't want to have to refund me if I find out that it is fake etc etc wants to call the deal off and will give good feedback!!!
Well I reckon that the guy wasn't sure if it was a fake or not and didn't like all my sniffing around so.........
Either I got a lucky escape from an early fake or missed out on a bargain on this one??
You decide??!!!!!!

if he wants to just leave positive that means he will be paying ebay fees which will be a lot ?
also if you do leave him positive it give him ammunition meaning he can be trusted andwill use that to sell more fakes??

Help please? THANKS and the end...?, by dotdot on Aug 12, 2008 20:58:33 GMT 1, interesting story.. ahem could be a good deal.. however it is slightly imperfect. (damaged..)
ok if you're still interested (imho of course)... contact seller - advise "if you want a deal it goes to pow for full verification" ie what dora recommends - be that pest control or send it in.
advise seller that you'll pay for the hassle (a minor detail if it turns out to be fake..).
if the seller is genuine they'll bite the bullet and not want to be assoc with "bringing the game into disrepute"... - (from what you've said they seem ok.. if a little tense toward the end..)
you're the buyer - it's your choice and if you're still keen.... their call.
keep us posted.
..
oh and may i echo what manty said - these things should *always* be sorted pre bid. (m + 1)

Help please? THANKS and the end...?, by loucastel on Aug 12, 2008 21:02:24 GMT 1, It's like a bloody lynch mob on here, none of you know if it is fake or not, I hope that you have missed a bargain, because if I was the selller, and being buggered around like this after the auction had ended, I would pull out also, any questions should be asked during, not after the auction, If unsure, why bid?
