Looks like a cool place but do you not think it would be a good idea to have a front door fitted and maybe some security shutters to keep scallies out at night? ;D Your post also sounded a bit like it was written in a geordie accent by the way... a couple of yam-yams and an awroit skip wouldn't have gone amiss would they? ;D
Best of luck with it though, as I say, looks like a cool pub.

Please come here and make our City beautiful! gra, I'll be popping over to Hockley to check you out very soon. Good luck with your new venture, I hope it goes well for you.

Yeah, Who'd wanna look at a collection of Banksy's, Walker's & Dface's on the wall when you can sit in a 60's throwback alehouse, Listen to Wham on the jukebox and appreciate the artistic splender of dogs playing snooker..... ;D

Birminghams first urban art bar, by dogant on Jun 6, 2008 18:58:27 GMT 1, I am up for a night of booze and art in Brum.
Scavos, are you now the local art party organiser - if so, count me in.....although, don't allow me to drink too much (like they kindly did at the MB show....got so wrecked, ended up walking the bloody streets of Brighton for 2 hours before I remembered I had not booked a hotel to stay in!)

Birminghams first urban art bar, by scavos on Jun 6, 2008 22:22:02 GMT 1, Ok. Venue: The Lord Clifden, 34 Great Hampton St, Hockley, Birmingham, West Midlands, B18 6AA Date: Fri 20th June from 7pm.
This should be simple so lets keep it that way, . I suggest a Brummy jolly in Hockley on the night of Friday 20th June. Say, from 7pm onwards. It's happily followed by the longest day of the year so plenty of recovery time the next day. Surely that is good enough reason alone.
A good evening of art, beer, casual sex (optional) and hopefully a decent curry somewhere local. Just post on the thread to confirm attendance, or just turn up!
We ought to have a code for forumites. You must drink with your little finger sticking out so as to be a dedicated member to the cause. Dogant's ok as he already does this when sipping his sherry. ;D
Is that right then Graham, first pint on the house for forumites? ;D ;D ;D
Hey dogant, first night sleeping in your car followed by a second night on the streets of Brighton. Hope you're home tucked up safe tonight fella?!
This is the blurb from the link above... "Birmingham's first urban art bar May 26 2008 By Poppy Brady
TWO pints and a print please! That's what customers can buy at Birmingham's first urban art bar where limited edition screen prints line the walls.
The unique idea has taken off at the Lord Clifden pub in Hockley, a boozer which sells work by some of Britain's best known urban artists such as Banksy, Blek le Rat, Obey, Nick Walker and Faile.
The man behind the masterstroke is pub owner Graham Smith, who decided to bring his lifelong love of art right into his own pub, which he bought six years ago. The Great Hampton Street bar has just reopened after a ยฃ400,000 new look to include a selection of iconic prints that can fetch four figure sums.
"There's a massive interest in this style of work which is not just graffiti any more - it's become art," said Graham, who next month will open the city's second urban art bar at the Red Lion in Warstone Lane. "The customers love it, even the hardcore locals, who we were a bit dubious about, have embraced the concept. We just don't have enough room here to show everything - the rest is on our on-line gallery site which is currently under construction."
Apart from nationally known names, the work of local artists is also displayed such as Roy "Army Lion" Mailin's stencil work of hand sprayed portraits on old 12in vinyl records. The historic pub's corridors have been transformed into exhibition space for local art students.
Graham, aged 36, a trained chef, who is in charge of the pub's homecooked menu, is now throwing down the gauntlet to stencil artists to come and turn the pub's beer garden into another work of art.
"We don't want any tagging or graphics but there's plenty of free space here for stencil artists. It will make people feel part of the pub," he added.
Pub manager Tommy "Rocket" Wharam said: "We've preserved the traditional feel of the pub, which is helped by stocking beers such as Bathams and Wye Valley."
The pub also has a thriving late night music scene on Fridays and Saturdays, with chill-out music on Sunday afternoons. The on-line gallery will soon be ready for viewing at urbanartbar.com"
