New Artist/Anyone Interested?, by Martin Whatson on Jul 15, 2008 10:49:16 GMT 1, Hey and welcome. Just a tip, before promoting your work, I would have worked up a collection of stuff to show to. Dont mean to be harsh or anything, but when I clicked your portfolio, and you had 2 pictures on a flickr page. Well, it was a bit dissapointing to be honest!
But keep up the work and build yourself a portfolio.
Stay fresh. M

New Artist/Anyone Interested?, by zenkx on Jul 15, 2008 10:56:41 GMT 1, Finally found one of my favourite images. It was on my harddrive but I couldn't find it.
Relevant Now, hence the name 'Health Insurance'.
www.flickr.com/photos/28586883@N03/2671023696/
Note: these are stencil plans. If the images get good feedback then they will be made into real stencils, and sold on my Buycartel.

Dows anyon know where I can get some vinyl stickers made? I don't have that much money to spend on them at the moment. (Catch 22, I dont have enough money to make my stuff until I have sold it, and I can't sell it if it hasn't been made!)

I really think you need to be using illustrator for this kind of work you are doing! It's a small price to pay for the quality of work you will get from it! The whole time your useing "JASC Paintshop Pro 8" your not doing your work any favours! From someone who uses it everyday to create artwork on a commercial level i can tell straight away, that it's been done on a budget software package. Im pretty sure other people will also. Just my thoughts!

The pixelation isn't as bad when the whole process is carried through. I hand cut the stencils, Then scan in the image, print it onto acetate and then make a screenprint.

Would be a good idea to show that on your site rather than the pixelated version!

Are all artist supposed to hit the streets now??
I agree that if you want to call yourself a streetartis, you will have to do some works on the streets and not only do stencils in a studio. But I think its stupid that you cant be respected for doing stencils or streetart inspired art without doing stuff outside! Im putting this a bit on the point now, but you know what i mean!?

totally get what you mean. no everyone doesnt but as this is a street art forum its nice to see artists getting up imo. all the work i like has a sense of the street in it and i like to see pieces on the street rather than just produced to make money!

New Artist/Anyone Interested?, by ceba on Jul 17, 2008 12:29:59 GMT 1, Its difficult to comment. How old are you?. i think the work shows promise There's nothing wrong with the images or style but you need to put more of an edge on it. look at what other Street artists are doing and what people are buying. Is Health insurance your piece because its by far the best. For some reason you get more respect if you put the work out there fiirst shows comitment plus you get a wider exposure. People in it for the money dont last long.

I am currently cutting out health insurance, and will be spraying some onto paper and handing them out to members of the forum (only 5 available)
PM me if you will want one...

Agree with the above. It would be good to see a few more new artists doing street art this before trying to sell.
No No No image did make me smile but as mentioned above about it did look a bit cheap (I know nothing about software so can't offer any solutions). Would be interested to see how a stencil looked of that, I'm sure it would grab peoples attention if on the street (especially if you could place it near a churchill insurance advert. Interested to see other stuff in the future.
