So if he has to flog a bit or two to get what he wants, so be it. Quit the bitchin and take a longer look at others on this forum who do not always practice what they preach, eg Mr 'quick turn around nuart' with his banksy pulp fiction etc.... (no real dig intended, just that u chose to put your oar in). I personally could not give a shit if you want to wait several hours in the cold, loose wages to sell a print or do it whichever way u choose to get what u want. After all it is called the 'art market'.

DFace โข Fools Gold, What Wars are For, by slacker on Jul 1, 2007 0:50:19 GMT 1, I was prepared to go to London for Banksy's Flag, but it is quite a trek, which costs money (about ยฃ70 for me not including loss of earnings) it's a fair way for you and for me at least an extra 2 hours. Obviously any print release at an exhibition in London favours the fans (or baggers) in London, so on balance I'd say it's fairer to have the releases on the web. Fully agree... It's hard to justify a 7+ hour round trip for a print release...
then when you get there the gallery announce that they have 50 to sell - not 75 as previously announced

Yeh, that was a bit naughty. I get the impression SS were a bit overwhelmed that day.

It's a delicate one. Whilst I'm dead against baggers. If the guys taken a day off work and put the man hours in etc then maybe he has a point.
How many of POW's Banksys stay in their registered home? How many of them make the return trip from abroad?.
The Evil Snakes ;D has said that its to get on the Banksy ladder. I can sympathise with that as the escalating rises are putting Banksy outta peoples reach. I myself, only managed to get my long sought after Applause due to a kind hearted forum member selling to me at a reduced rate otherwise I wouldn't have been able to afford it.

I think people misunderstand when others have a go at baggers/flippers etc. It's not personal, it's just people looking out for one another on here, kinda throws a spanner in the works of a forum to share knowledge when certain members are just out to take advantage of it. And to put your mind at ease, yes, the PF came up on a tasty BIN on 575, open to everyone on here..I was lucky enough to see it, and by the way, I still have it, so you might wanna get your facts straight on that one. PM if you want the details, don't want you having sleepless nights over it.

DFace โข Fools Gold, What Wars are For, by a4mnt on Jul 1, 2007 13:23:40 GMT 1, Do the galleries generally care who buys their prints and how quickly they are resold? Or do they just want to make sure they sell them all to keep the artist happy and keep the books balanced.
Surely the secondary market created by ebay sales increases the salebility of that artists future releases, which is beneficial to the galleries.
Frankie's (possibly enforced) idea of making sure only collectors received AFD was clearly a breath of fresh air for the longer time members on here - but would other galleries go out of their way to vet potential buyers.
I would like to think they would, but don't know anything about them to make a considered judgement.

DFace โข Fools Gold, What Wars are For, by corblimeylimey on Jul 1, 2007 14:05:54 GMT 1, POW have made it quite clear they don't like it.
I think what Frankie did was to give the first buying options to known (eg posting) members of this and the wall candy forum, of course that's no guarantee they won't be on ebay quickly but it does make it less likely.

Also I didn't supply 1st come 1st serve as that never works and at least 25% have gone all round the world and of course Mantis gave me a big list of people to take care of fans who have bought from the past. Of course I'm not a control freak so the print is to do as you choose but i suppose if you can get them to people who really want them for their wall then thats good. It was really difficault allocating them and of course I've made some mistakes (over sold them)! and for those i apologise but I tried my best and the good news is that another is coming out soon but will be on sale at my show in association with the Leonard street Gallery on the 19th July. It's called 'Found' and everything sold will be on 'found' materials and objects. Not a canvas in site. There should be something for everyone and we will try to organise it as well as poss. Some of the work I've seen so far is pretty outstanding. Between 10 and 15 artists involved who you'll all know. A few things to finalise yet and i'll be posting details up here when we have done.

You can't please all the people all the time (easy for me to say I know as I received an AFD), but so far, you're judgement has been effective and thats a good step forward for genuine collectors. Many thanks for that.
The secondary market needs to exist though, I doubt many of us on here would have been introduced to collecting if there were no prints to buy on ebay. 90% of my collection has been bought 2nd hand and without that market, many genuine collectors would never track down the prints they wanted but were unable to buy them at the initial sale.
By the way Frankie, is the forthcoming exhibition opening invite only or open to all? I guess an invite only would be one way of vetting the potential clientelle you want?
