Banksy "Handbags" in Guardian Arts Blog, by GD303uk on Jun 4, 2008 23:40:45 GMT 1, Art is ultimately an act of communication and Banksy has managed to help people realise that art can talk to us tell us something about ourselves and the world we live in, he has through some happy accident turned allot of people onto art that would maybe would never have found art had any relevance to them/us/me, he has turned us on and taught us that art can be good and enjoyed, this for me is his greatest achievement , the blog by jj illustrates all that is wrong with art critics and the art world, jj believes that by using his limited intellect he can brow beet, lookdown his noise and feel superior to us, where a good artist uses his brain to create to communicate with us, the thing the art critics like JJ donโt understand is if we are thick or not we have a right to love art and create art relevant to us, thatโs why I love graff art , its by us for us, it must be frustrating for these elitist art critic parasites to see their job become more pointless by the day as they loose touch and a hoody become more knowledgeable than him, the shift in public opinion on graff art shows that right across the board from the streets to the tate there is an apprecation and understanding of art from the likes of Banksy taking nothing from Twombly but,,, what has he done to bring to our attention the issues we face in a modern world, did he go to palistine and doodle on the wall?? and if he has done something lately that is good would my futile thick brain understand it? it s no good telling me the meaning of life if i cant understand a word you say.

Banksy "Handbags" in Guardian Arts Blog, by thebleedingedge on Jun 5, 2008 7:30:58 GMT 1, I don't know, I think Cy makes some really good wallpaper, I can't decipher his use of colour and technique to get some sort of message or emotion from it, but that's not his fault, it's because I am thick and smoked weed instead of getting an art degree. I did learn one thing from my art teacher before I started smoking weed though, there is no right or wrong in art, but then again, what does she know, she was getting an art degree when all the real artists were smoking weed and getting introspective.
Art has always been an accessible medium, that is sort of the point and has been since the beginning or else we would all just be learning steganography in order to produce images that meant something.
Even Jackson Pollock (one of Cy's influences apparently) knew that, that's what he was about, so this art critic can just fuck right off with the rest of them. These are people who want to create false complexities to things that are universal so they can feel important, smart and useful which ultimately makes them blind because the universal truths are that we are all unimportant, stupid and useless.
