MICALLEFS DRYING UP, by verbalkint on May 27, 2007 0:29:14 GMT 1, Has anyone else noticed that the amount of micallefs going on ebay has dried up quite dramaticly. Still a few JD's, but hardly any angel bombers or FF's, SMS's and only a trickle of eyestorm prints.
There was a time a few weeks ago when you could guarantee at least 6 angel bombers, 6 JD's and loads of other gems every time you logged on. It certainly looks like the flippers have flipped and the prices are on their way up. FF went for ยฃ1275 today which i think is a new high.
Just wondered what everyone else thinks

1. After a while the pieces, especially the eyestorms with their limited numbers, end up in the hands of people who are going to frame and keep. This also applies to the early February POW releases, which found their way into permanent collections after a spell on the 'bay...
2. During the Micallef lull of the last few months, people began stockpiling in anticipation of the September LA show....
I think Save My Soul is the POW that is going to take off like a rocket in the fall due to it including hand painting.....the time for a bargain on ebay is quickly coming to an end...

it's funny, Friendly Fire was such an instant hit but I really think it is his weakest POW work overall(although, the printing of the Angel Bombers was a bit of a let down)...
I definitely like my Micallef less immediate than Friendly Fire was........i don't find myself getting lost in it like a lot of his other works....

I havn't seen either in person so wont comment, but you are not the first person i have heard rave about SMS, so i will buy it and give you my honest opinion. fair enough!

I watched the final couple of minutes for the FF auction and saw it quickly go from 1k to 1275. quite funny to watch the frantic bidding conclude.
You're right though. The last Angel Bomber went for 585, which is quite a lot more than usual. This must be due to the lack of availability. A few people have noted that AM's work will rise in cost as the supply dries up, and it looks as though this has now begun.
Agree with Thomas on the SMS point. Very underated.

SMS is an amazing piece of work. i have two and the overpainting (or artists mark or whatever you want to call it) is very different between them. i honestly think it is very underrated. i love the angel bombers but agree the printing isn't best. friendly fire is a little too obvious for my taste but as ever each to their own.
