I would bet that they were doing an 'offline' deal but wanted the added security of Ebay, yet the seller didn't want to incur large final value fees, so they agreed on an arbitrary number and the difference was probably paid directly.

Or the flipside is that Space_aged_things is the luckiest bloke on the planet!!! ;D
