Warning - Strange Ebay Message, by Cocteau 101 on Feb 25, 2007 18:39:04 GMT 1, Hi Guys
i mailed the person selling the Grin Reaper with printing flaws on it mentioned in an earlier thread and got the following email, what is all this about looks like a phishing site possibly. Problem is I must have asked the question via ask email a seller. Advice needed especially from Policeaware if possible.
Text of email below:
£1500 with free shipping and yes, I am the original owner. To continue further more, I will need to know your eBay user ID, full name & address- as soon as I will inform eBay about your reply they should send you further information & instructions-PLEASE READ THEM CAREFULLY AS YOU MUST FOLLOW THE EXACT STEPS DESCRIBED IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THIS TRANSACTION SMOOTHLY. As I previously stated, I am offering to pay for all shipping & insurance fees, also, a 30 day return policy will be included. Cheers, carolinek4943
Advice required J

That's definitely a phishing email.. report asap. DO NOT CONTACT THEM, AND DON'T GIVE THEM ANY INFO. if you have already, you need to inform ebay and change your passwords asap.

Warning - Strange Ebay Message, by monkeypuzzle on Feb 25, 2007 18:47:17 GMT 1, If its a legit sale, once you win it, the seller will get your details automatically, so they dont need it now, looks fishy as hell that does. If it looks dodgy enough to make you even think about asking questions, its often best avoided completely. It looks too flaky, wouldnt bother if I was you.

Warning - Strange Ebay Message, by tomhills1 on Feb 25, 2007 19:00:29 GMT 1, not me being smug but i thought it was dodgy, might not be though, just an account that has been intercepted. interesting that they ask you to email a specific address to get a buy it now price.that whole spiel about following carefully and they'll pay postage is straight out of the phisher's handbook. you done the right thing by alerting people and i hope someone has reported this to ebay even if it is only an account that has been rumbled by a chancer. better safe than sorry etc.

Warning - Strange Ebay Message, by tomhills1 on Feb 25, 2007 21:00:38 GMT 1, well said nu. they obviously have a brain and therefore feel the need to enlighten people to the fact there is a scam going down and we should all be aware. if you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem. pipe down if it ain't constructive yeah, we're not talking about a tenner here or there, it's thousands of pounds. if you find that trivial then you obviously have more money than sense, always a lethal combo. come on.

Warning - Strange Ebay Message, by tomhills1 on Feb 25, 2007 21:09:25 GMT 1, came across this earlier today 260090205129 makes interesting reading.
i love the fact that people go out of their way to keep the rest of us up to speed on these things. nu and others have been good enough to list items on ebay that only serve to act as a form of infomation to those unlucky enough to be drawn in by an elaborate scam, similar to what this chap has attempted. i for one feel that should be applauded, they may have saved quite a few people a lot of money.
