Spraycan Ban?, by mcster on May 7, 2008 18:01:28 GMT 1, I was talking to a lady that lives near me that teaches Graphics and Art. She told me that cans of paint in spraycans are being banned. Has anyone else heard this?
Anyway, it got me wondering; what would the artists use if this was to happen?

Spraycan Ban?, by rcab11 on May 7, 2008 18:15:26 GMT 1, I heard the other day through a friend who is a Graff artist here in L.A. that KRYLON is going to start making their cans with a nozzle that will not be able to be taken off. So, no more interchanging caps to effect the spray. I guess the company is against Graffiti so this is their way to slow it down. (yeah, right!) I'm sure there will be someone out there who will be able to work around this, in time.

Spraycan Ban?, by mcster on May 7, 2008 18:23:02 GMT 1, I can't come up with any good alternative, airbrushes would take too much fiddling about and I can't see any other way of propelling paint without a can. You never know, it may mean a new level of creativity if people aren't chained to the can. Or it may all be rubbish anyway !

Spraycan Ban?, by maadbeats on May 7, 2008 19:02:03 GMT 1, That would be a stupid business move on Krylon. Besides the Graf artists that steal the cans, I would think they make a decent percent of their business. Outside of carpenters and labor workers of course.

Spraycan Ban?, by kingleopald on May 7, 2008 21:56:48 GMT 1, Think you hit the nail maadbeats (re stolen cans). Check the website - Krylon's obviously chasing the kind of Changing Rooms housewife who's willing to pay the price and make multiple swatch purchases! doesn't surprise me at all.

Spraycan Ban?, by seidbereit on May 7, 2008 22:14:03 GMT 1, Is this ban because of CFCs?
If so, I seem to remember Josh Keyes posting not too long ago about his personal choice of spraycan / paint manufacturer and he said it was because they were the only environmentally friendly make he knew.
...and no, I don't remember which one he mentioned.

Spraycan Ban?, by stickitup on May 8, 2008 9:15:32 GMT 1, absolute shite everyone. has anyone ever used the new krylon? (not the lead based stuff from 20 years ago) its possibly the worst paint i have ever used and believe me i have used thousands of tins of paint since the mid eighties. good riddence if they are, but for stenciling it wouldn't matter anyway as you are usually tring to get a flat base for the paint not do detailed work. a ban for selling it to under 18's (which is already in place) - yes, however if you are determined enough you can get it some how.

Spraycan Ban?, by danny1 on May 8, 2008 21:17:53 GMT 1, For info:
CFCs were removed from paint (and fridges etc) in the 90s. A really sucessful peice of environmental legislation led to this- the montral protocol, enacted as the environmental protection act 1990 in the UK.
paint is still toxic though...but n ot to the ozone layer anymore...!
