Its funny –yet scary - to see some similar discussions on the CWS thread and the prices discussed 1200GBP was thought a lot for the print For me, that still is a lot.
As for prices, I guess it depends on what “league” banksy enters in to. Already seems he’s at the wanker banker level and the rest of nouveau riche and art elite may desire prints. If so, the prices are still pocket change. Good for those with banksys now, bad to buy them in the future. For me its sorta like the housing market, I’ll never get on the housing ladder in the UK but if I had a house I’d be ok. At least I’m on the banksy ladder

Signed Black and White Morons, by snorky on Jun 20, 2007 11:11:59 GMT 1, So whats it worth ?
Its worth whatever people are willing to pay for it - and thats the problem - Take the art out of it and you have another hijacked brand.
The unprecedented leap in banksy prices is down to one clear trend - recognisability.
Rarely has someone produced a run of works that are so recognised, even by those who have no interest in his stuff. When Daily Mail readers have an opinion on Banksy, you know how big the whole scene is.
For the Arriviste banksy collector, its Bling/ Front/Image - its another way of supposedly showing :
a) How wealthy you are b) How "tasteful" you are
The art world equivalent of a Gold Rolex or an oversized Franck Mueller, worn loosely on a tanned wrist, hanging so far down, it no longer serves as a timepiece, but as a statement .
For many , Its the wall hanging equivalent of going to, Chinawhytes in a white linen suit, wearing your sunglasses all night and spending several thousand of her majesties pounds on a champagne thats costs £350 a bottle.
You dont go to CW to meet Great thinkers of our time or to engage Tom Stoppard in a chat about his proposed rewrite of West Side Story. You go with the explicit or implicit intention to be seen and to strut your stuff.
An original Degas or Klimt pencil sketch may cost a thousand times as much, but who would recognise it when they came around to your office or home ? not many I suspect.
Its a relatively cheap way to aquire off the shelf Kudos amongst those you mix with andf those whose opinions matter to you.
The picture you stick on yiour wall is either a fantastic , witty piece of subversive, cynical art that will give you years of pleasure or it is just another badge of office for those who value style over substance - an easily displayed shorthand for your supposed succes
Now I feel that the latter of the two categories have edged into the majority.
If you like the image, you would be as happy with an unsigned hanging on your wall. Sell the signed to these one dimensional poltroons, buy an unsigned and use the profit to do something with your life - go somewhere, fund a degree, spend it on drugs... whatever

Signed Black and White Morons, by Tyler Durden on Jun 20, 2007 12:06:09 GMT 1, Brilliant summation snorky. I wonder if that's why there's a fair concensus on this forum for people to be erring towards up and coming artists, who's prices aren't exorbitant if you happen to miss the prints the first time around. I for one do not own any signed Banksys, but am glad to have Amp's Kwan, Ripper's red crucipod, and Peter Kennard's photo op staring back at me when I get home. For me, if i like it I buy it unless I'd have to mug all of my mates' grannies to get the cash together.
Kudos to Banksy for where he is now but unfortunately, unless there's a massive reversal in the prices of his work, I will never own a signed Banksy because every time I look at it, I'll think what else I could have done with the cash I saved to buy it in the first place.
PS - good use of poltroon!

Sure it will be complete luck of the draw but the thrill of waiting is almost as good as the acquisition itself. Don't give up on the idea of getting a signed banksy yet!

yes great summation - FACT: Trends come and go. Street art is a trend amongst the masses. It used to symbolise the ghetto now its used to sell cars, clothes, ipods etc etc. To me this whole scene will have an inevitable and precipitous drop with many people shaking their heads. This is because people have gone beyond having fun with a public fascination or trend. Taking out loans and emptying the bank account for prints? Ohhh man...

Signed Black and White Morons, by Winter on Jun 21, 2007 22:02:25 GMT 1, Personally I think it really is a classic Banksy and deserves to be in the same price bracket as the others. Just wish I had one. I think the chances of getting even a Sepia Morons anywhere near 3k are slowly fading. Time to look forward to the next release.

It definitly deserves to be up there with applause and grannies price wise... b&w and sepia that is...

I think it looks really great in a gold frame. I think it was him who bought a proper Sepia coloured version as well as the avocado version and decided he preferred the 'greener' version. From the picture it looks class.

I would go along with that, Iv stuck up for the Morons print as it was dragged through the hedges by many immeditely after the release. i think there was alot of frustration and resentment initially so people talked it down.
Iv been vouching for the message and significance of the message morons tries to portray from day one, although at one point i did doubt my own point of view as im not impartial-i have a Sepia, so im obviously going to defend it! but iv come to realise that when framed right it looks amazing, and when criticised it can be analysed as a brilliant play on the art market and more specifically, hype around 'Banksy'!
For me..in short...Brilliant, just one of many pieces of brilliance
