Print damaged in transit!?, by jayme on May 13, 2007 23:52:01 GMT 1, Hey,
I am in a small dispute with a buyer (he seems genuine) who has bought a print from me. He says that during transit the print has slid in the tube and caused a crease in the print. I have packed the tube with tissue paper and there is no sign of crushing on the tube. He wants to return the print to me and get a refund. What do you think I should do?

Print damaged in transit!?, by pw on May 14, 2007 0:01:12 GMT 1, technically its the sellers responsibility to make sure that the item gets delivered in good condition. therefore you should: 1.get the buyer to take photos of the damage as proof. 2.get him to post it back to you. 3.refund him. 4.make a claim from the courier. (although since theres no damage to the tube they might not accept responsibility.)

Print damaged in transit!?, by jayme on May 14, 2007 0:05:59 GMT 1, The thing is the courier didnt damage it, from what he has said the print has slipped inside the tube and hit the cap. It sounds like a genuine unfortunate accident. If the tube has no damage then the courier wont accept responsibility, and he has signed to say he recieved it complete with no damage.

Print damaged in transit!?, by stuey09 on May 14, 2007 0:10:24 GMT 1, jayme, it sounds odd that if you packed the tube with tissue paper at the ends, how could it slip sufficiently to cause a crease. Tricky one, but I would say that it is your responsibility to ensure that it arrives in the condition which you described it to the buyer.

if the print slides inside the tube, tissue paper often won't stop it hitting the end-cap cos the tissue just slides inside the print. my last print from POW arrived like this with the print touching the cap and the tissue squashed inside the print. but thankfully no damage.
as for the crease, when you get the print back, you may well be able to iron it out so its unnoticeable.

Print damaged in transit!?, by verbalkint on May 14, 2007 5:12:07 GMT 1, hes a liar!! Tell him to stick the print up his ass!! yorkshire customer service......best in the world!!
Only joking, as long as you get the print back, and i assume that it is a numbered print? if it isnt then it could be a ploy to swap a damaged one for yours. I personally have a no quibble refund policy on purchases, but not on deposits. If someone buys something from me and wants to return it because of my fault (damage, mis grading, wrong description etc) they get a full refund including postage and everything. If they just decide they dont want it anymore i give them a full refund, minus the postage fees and minus a 10% restocking fee which takes care of the ebay fees, lost cash-flow and the cost to relist the item. Unfortunatly with ebay if someone just decides they dont want something, the seller loses money.
I guess what i am trying to say is, being the cynical, non trusting person that i am, is it possible (no not possible, of course it is possible, i meant to say do you feel that it is likely) that this buyer bought your print, found another one elsewhere for cheaper and decided to get his money back for yours by putting a little crease on the side and saying it was damaged?
But if he is telling the truth then he deserves a refund. investigate a bit, ask for photos and ask yourself, is it possible for that to have happened with the way you packaged it?
hope you get it sorted

All this "slid in the tube and hit a cap" is nonesense.. buy a piece of paper of sufficient quality.. stick it in a tube.. and shake..does it crease the corner.. does it F***... people shoving them in, people pulling em out..that's what f**** em up.

yeah, sorry.. was agreeing with you , it's almost impossible to find out whast happened to it once it's left your hands, postman, customs, buyer... It happened to me with a TM once... customs say, "if it was us, we'd leave as note in the tube" ha ha.. yeah.. that'd fuck it up too.. and if it's signed for, then the buyer is pretty much signing that it's in tip top condition. No dfan age to the tube and that's it. No claim.

Print damaged in transit!?, by sputnikeye on May 14, 2007 9:40:39 GMT 1, I just bought a print off flea bay which has a mark, slap bang in the middle of it, a crease. Wasn't caused by myself, i've taken enough of these out of tubes to know, and I'm keeping the print. Does anyone have any advice for taking out a crease. I don't want to resort to an iron. Was wondering if just getting it laid flat would help the paper level out? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot

Seriously, iron it. Face down, paper underneath (acid free tissue) about 7-10 sheets of A4 on top, an iron with no water in. Couple of seconds iron, check and repeat if needed. One crease gone

sorry mate but that last post is crap. put a print in a tube and make sure its nice and tight, then drop in on its end from a couple of foot and see what happend. guarantee it gets crushed against the end cap. you could try it one of your banksy's, you've got plenty to spare anyway

I did, it came out fine unlike the 30 or so damaged Sepia's which were fucked by someone shoving them in.
