Many Australians on here?, by dundermifflin on Feb 10, 2008 23:40:35 GMT 1, i've been thinking about an idea of a swap/sell forum or site for Australian collectors and enthusiasts of the artists popular on these forums. Main reason being to be able to trade in Aus dollars and avoid the scream of agony when realising that the ยฃ500 print your after is A$1100 or more once the bloody exchange rate kicks in. Plus to avoid shipping costs and hassles.
if there are enough Aussies out there keen then I might look at setting something up?
ps. I am in no way trying to take us Aussies away from the awesomeness of the Banksy Forums, just want to add some local flavour and benefits.

Many Australians on here?, by noodles1 on Feb 11, 2008 0:04:32 GMT 1, Wot is it with Flag waving Aussies and always wanting to create a corner of their own within a culture, just for themselves? They splatter all over London, Aussie Bars which are most unwelcoming if ur not Australian. House shares advertised with a heading of 'Aussie House Share, Room available to fellow aussie only' and now this. If you want my opinion on this (which I'm sure you wont) then I would say, if you wanna buy british art, then deal with buying it via the British Pound.

Many Australians on here?, by snakes on Feb 11, 2008 0:11:53 GMT 1, I have had nothing but the biggest welcomes from our Aussie friends especially in deepest and darkest Queensland.
God bless Australia, even Canberra (well maybe not Canberra but everywhere else even Wollongong!)..

Many Australians on here?, by noodles1 on Feb 11, 2008 0:19:58 GMT 1, Im mainly talkin bout the 'Aussie' experience in London. I cant form an opinion on Aussie bars in Australia as I'v never been. My point was made as my experiences with aussies in general seem to wanna separate themselves into section jus for them. Its quite sad really as I love Kylie.

a bit crazy to base your opinion of Australians on the ones who frequent the Walkabout hotels in London. What sort of Australian goes to the other side of the world to sit in an 'Aussie' themed bar? Would you want the English to be judged on the specimens that can be seen drinking in 'English' themed pubs around the world??? I've seen some and they aint a pretty bunch.

Many Australians on here?, by JonW on Feb 11, 2008 1:13:26 GMT 1, Noodles! Im a Brit living in Aus and have to say i find the people down here are great. They take the piss out of the Poms but its generally good natured. I have no experience of the London end of the deal but understand what youre saying. I do also hear what the original poster was saying tho... it seems crazy that the local guys hevent formed up some kind of online 'art market' as the postage charges (and the chance of damage) from buying stuff from the rest of the world is cripling at times - you dont realise quite how far from the rest of the world we are until you buy something (or read about the London/LA etc shows)...

Many Australians on here?, by Joe J on Feb 11, 2008 3:42:10 GMT 1, I'm interested Dundermifflin... Great idea.
Noodles1... I see your so proud of your home town you've listed 'Funky Town'! A fair few of the Poms have done what your moaning about here in Australia, you should see Bondi Beach. But us Aussie don't moan about it.. Unless it comes to loosing the Rugby.
Power to the Pound. It does hurt down here, same thing with the postage.
We have all this salt water spray and sun damage to worry about when we frame our prints too!

Noodles, congratulations on your sweeping generalisation. Didn't i see you in Majorca last year sitting in Dirty Nelly's watching the football and over a full english Breakfast?

Many Australians on here?, by gbh on Feb 11, 2008 10:33:38 GMT 1, was going to say, drop down to Bondi some time if you want to feel at home just like in London. anyway, who gives a fuck about that shit.
I'M SERIOUSLY OPEN TO TRADES with local Aussie based punters. I have been getting punished by exchange rates and postage for years.
Anyone in Oz (or otherwise really) , check out www.globalskunkworks.com/gallery for some stuff. Of course, not all is for trade but asking won't harm.

Being an Aussie that once lived in London I agree that there are a certain bunch of people from Aus/NZ/SA that like to move from one side of the world to the other just so they can drink the same beer with the same people that they once lived down the round from.
There are though a fair amount of people that migrate peacefully, choosing not to have a thick bogan accent and making the most of the quality record stores.
Now Brits that move to Spain, that's another story!

Many Australians on here?, by pastiepie on Feb 14, 2008 11:38:50 GMT 1, An Aussie board is a great idea. I don't think people realise that buy/selling prints with peeps in the UK is hazardous process. If you post an item fully insured you then have to pay VAT/GST depending on which way it is travelling. If you choose not to fully insure then you risk losing/damaging your very expensive piece of paper.

Many Australians on here?, by noodles1 on Feb 19, 2008 0:40:37 GMT 1, Nice work, I'm in Noodles your views on Australians are
...based on 90+% of australians I've met.
...Tho I do now somewhat understand ur reasons for the 'aussie' board and wish u all the best of luck with it. I thought it was just another way of "aussies' grouping together with yet another 'no brits allowed' unspoken rule. Guess I should broaden my Australian relations b4 stating such an opinion. My appologies to all I offended.
Oh! And thank you so much 4 Kylie!
