New artists, New styles, Affordable pricing?, by adamdavis on Feb 18, 2008 14:54:50 GMT 1, Banksy prints go for thousands, as do many other artists. I personally am a bit sick of all this mental pricing and crave for an original which is by an unknown with a bit of history behind them, to stick up on my wall.
I was wondering If anyone else felt the same, Would you pay the thousands that some might for a happy choppers print for the original by the unknown? Or would you pay a tenner? Or 500 quid or so on..
I personally would pay about ยฃ500 for an image I liked, which had some history behind the image and artist.

I think you should sell just above cost & carry on creating, maybe go the route of donating pieces to bars / clubs in your area like a lot of artists starting out did. but the number 1 rule i suppose is don't alienate the people that you are asking for feedback with a comment like above - makes it sound a bit funny if i'm making sense. by the way i actually like your babies image that was posted recently.

I think alot of people buy stuff just because they think it would be too expensive the next show round so pay that mile extra, I dont really like doing this.
But swoon prints at BRP for ยฃ600 quid for an edition of 95 and Dface for 200 for an edition of 195, just seems in absolute terms mental for a piece of paper, I would rather buy an original and pay double the price.

I knew I'd bought an important bit of history as well as a cracking print but I hadn't realised quite how significant the rats were. In the flesh the prints are outstanding really thick ink against a beautiful cream background.
