Don't forget, if something sells for ยฃ50,000 at auction which actually means more lie 40k on the hammer price and then after their commission which can come to 15-20% of the hammer price you could be left with 32k and then that goes of to the tax man and you'll have to pay another load of tax on the profit you made.
So, auction houses can not always be the best way to get the highest price.
