I hope their testicles will dry up and fall off.
If they're female, I hope they turn into males, and their testicles dry up and fall off.
NOT COOL.

Haha! Yeah it is! But there's not nearly as many Aussies and Americans as there are Europeans, though... so it gets really quiet as the day goes on, especially evening time in LA, which is between 3-8am UK time

In one word: Money
If you have loads of money, you're important. If you're important, people allow you to break rules. Money makes the world go round - there's a reason why this phrase exists
Same for the LA prints, on the preview night, VIP people could buy however many prints they wanted. When it opened up to the public, only one print per person (per piece). At least they held back 40 per print for sale to the 'commoners', otherwise all 100 could have easily gone on preview night.
*Sigh*...

This is absolute shite - profiteering, by gbh on Dec 5, 2006 3:25:44 GMT 1, I think there is room for a good philosophical discussion on this whole subject.
Some points worth considering: 1. If there was no crazy demand, artists couldn't sell the bigger originals for hundreds of thousands of pounds.
2. By artists selling prints at low prices (50 pounds/200 pounds) are they actually supporting the profiteers? Makes no difference to the artist. I imagine artists would be keen to sell work cheap in limited numbers, create a demand, prices go up, their work becomes more valuable. Next time round, raise prices a little, see it increase again, etc., etc. All the while pumping out a few one off 's for 30,000 pounds because their work is so in demand.
3. if an artists released an edition of 5000 and everyone got one, I imagine there wouldn't be so many people in these forums, etc. for example trying to get hold of the artists work. Pretty sure POW wouldn't have a spot on Oxford street if that was the case.
I'm sure this whole phenomenon has been discussed to death several thousand times in the art world anyway and better points than mine been put forward.
If there were a way to do it, I'm sure the artists would support a method of sale that ensured real fans/regular buyers got an opportunity to purchase. If this could also be done alongside a method of helping the scalpers to make some $$ and at the same time drive up the value of the artists work, everyone would be happy.
When I can, I buy two of each print i like. One for me and one that I'll happily sell on for a fair price to someone who is a genuine fan. Sometimes the profit can just about be enough for me to frame the first print. That way I'm happy and the artist is still having value built for his work. Anther fan is also happy. I know others here do the same or similar, Foundation for example has been nice enough to sell me a print at a fair and reasonable market price
I think the secret is trying to not be too greedy. One chick buying ten prints is a bit rough, seeing all these new Eelus prints pop up today on ebay, it's pretty shitty in my opinion.
For now, I'm personally working to establish personal relationships with artists I enjoy in the hope that I can build a relationship as a true fan should this wondrous method of sale ever presents itself.

This really pissed me off. I flew in on Fri and was able to get 2 prints. If they had started selling on Fri, as announced, I would have gotten all 6. (Im happy to see the POW, LaZ, whoever employees not all treated like gods around here, like they have been in the past.)

LA was my first in person experience with POW folks. The Thurs print sales upset me, but hey I was happy to get 2 of 6. The thing that really put a bad taste in my mouth was the actual print hand-outs on Sunday. Folks were told to come back Sunday 1PM. Then at 1 it was wait around for hours while the prints sat in the back room waiting to be tubed while employees mingled and ate sandwiches. I ended up leaving and came back after 5 and still got the run-around that my prints werent tubed up, I had a plane to catch the next morning and showing my actual plane ticket got me my prints.

Perhaps they KNOW that people are getting pissed off, but they're just not too concerned? Think about it... they're the only people who are selling for 'good' prices. It's a monopoly. I'm sure the thought, "If you're pissed off, go buy it off eBay or other galleries for 10 times the price", has gone through their heads. POW many be many things, but stupid is not one of them.
They don't *have to* sell art at low prices. Especially with all the logistical headaches that come with an exponentially-growing fanbase, as has been demonstrated lately. Normal people won't put up with it... it's a lot more trouble than it's worth, really. But they still do... is it because they genuinely care about us non-millionaire fans? Or is it because selling it at affordable prices to many people in the primary market is instrumental in driving up value in the grand scheme of things, i.e., the mean, green, POW-Laz machine? I'm not taking the side of either possibility, simply because I don't have enough evidence to support one argument over the other. But I think it's a worthwhile question to think about.
That being said, however... if we fans really want the art, and there's only one affordable source through which we can get what we want (despite the logistical mayhem), we really don't have any other choice. We can analyze things all we want, but at the end of the day, they've got us on a string only because we chose to bite.

i think you are not actually saying what you REALLY want to say... we are being treated like complete c**t. rules are made up as & when it suits them... they dont give a flying fuck about anyone! they know what they have (for now). do you think things would be as crazy if they sold at expensive prices? this bubble WILL burst... it wouldn't be so bad if they tared everyone with the same brush, but they do not. i could list at least 15 examples where it has been one rule for some & another for others. how can we have a go at people selling stuff immediately: i was in the que to order at the ghetto... a German woman dressed in Chanel was on the phone, obviously being told what to buy, buying 10 of everything. she didn't even know how to pronounce Eelus!! bottom line, there have been many occasions when i felt like FUCK THIS! FUCK THEM...I'm gonna start collecting stamps! I dont know of any other company that treats people in this way.
I MUST ADD THAT NOT ALL AT POW need to go on a custmer care course...i think we do know who does!! i need a stiff drink

This is absolute shite - profiteering, by Run Pig Run on Dec 5, 2006 20:22:56 GMT 1, one excuse I heard last friday was that they all got fucked up thursday night at the VIP show with Elton John and Jade Goody the other was that they didn't think it would be very busy and the reason it was busy was that it was in the guardian newspaper. NO. the reason it was busy is because people have been waiting all year, it was hyped up to fuck on here for months, 19 million people want a Banksy print, other prints are selling out left right and centre. There must be millions of hits on the POW website all of those are probably on the mailing list and IT WAS ON THE BUSIEST STREET IN THE UK FFS! It wouldn't of taken Sherlock Holmes to realise that they may of needed to tube up the prints beforehand and at least get some sort of system going. even my great uncle Barry in Australia knew it was gonna be mental.

This is absolute shite - profiteering, by mammal2 on Dec 5, 2006 20:48:15 GMT 1, I think alot of you need to get a grip. I went to the "VIP" party. Saw a guy out of Kaiser Chiefs and a bloke out of Cold Feet. So you did'nt get your print. I bet many of you have 80 on the wall. POW have given you a great deal over the years. Remember this was a small outfit that is trying to adjust. It will change. They will get better. But from what I saw at the Ghetto this was people working weeks and weeks to make something special for you to see. If all you want is prints stay at home and refresh. Go to the Ghetto to look at the original art and pick up a few prints if your lucky. You are lucky you have people like Steph et el, who e-mail many of you at 11.30pm, cause you have an Applause that needs stamping. Give them a break. POW could be run by a monet grabbing t**t then you would all be fucked. Lets all take a step back and see what POW have done for us over the years. Stop crying..You make just walk into the Ghetto this Thursday and pick up an exclusive Banksy! Laters Skt8rs!

Im sure you have been treated with nothing but respect by these guys up until the past few months. Im not getting into an argument on a internet message board cause every man and his gimp sounds like ten men behind their keyboard, but lets take a step back. It ain't life and death! Chill Out..like i said you may get lucky...

This is absolute shite - profiteering, by Run Pig Run on Dec 5, 2006 21:17:32 GMT 1, prints is not all I want but I did go to a art print shop. I don't know why people are making out like the buying and the enjoyment of owning an art print is a sin or something to be ashamed of. btw mammal2 i like the way you twist your lexis.

You don't hear the executives of oil companies complaining about the high costs of petrol, do you?

your 'avin a giraffe mate (as they say in souf london,i fink).
the ghetto was not put up JUST to look at all the amazing stuff. it's a shop. maybe you should have left the bit about being at the vip night out. statement may have been taken more seriously. you are right about internet worriors.
this situation has made people who wouldnt usually be so pushy DO WHATEVER THEY CAN to secure either the print they want for their pleasure & inspiration OR to make a s**t load of cash or both.
who wouldnt be totally f**ked off if you spent hours waiting for something you put your name down for, only to return to the news "sorry, not available today...& have no clue as to when.."
NO PERSONAL OFFENCE TO ANYONE
