Anyone fed up with the whole thing ?, by tiredofitall on Jan 6, 2008 0:00:48 GMT 1, Sorry, but is anyone just a little fed up with all of this ? POW re-opens on something-of-Feb - What is your favourite Banksy print ? - What next shall we waste our life away with pressing F5 ? In the great scheme of things, does anybody really care ? At the end of the day, we are patronising a guy who rolls his own ciggies and has a sharp sense of humour - and once every so ofton, we stop our lives to worship the site that is POW - who in turn make millions of pounds out us when, with the exception of afore-mentioned guy, you can just buy the sold out stuff on EBay the next week (cheaper !!!) Yes, I've done it all, and like most of us, I have got a little carried away with what I want to put on my walls and what I dream might provide a nest egg for me in the future. And like a lot of us, I wonder how much we appreciated art before all of this - and maybe after discovering this elite gentlemens group, we all feel a little better and hope that we too can 'make it' like Banksy in some way ..... well I'm sorry to be negative, but I'm done with all this shit - slag me down all you want and continue to collude with each other and once a year, break away to abuse your credit card and feather POW's nest ... but here's one less bit of competition for you .... happy new year

Anyone fed up with the whole thing ?, by Coach on Jan 6, 2008 0:08:54 GMT 1, but....it's not all about pow and mr b. there is loads of great art out there that doesnt mean spending hours in front of a computer pressing f5, or spending huge amounts of cash. ive bought 2 prints in the last couple of weeks for less than 50 quid, got one back and its a smasher, awaiting the other. am in discussions on 2 other pieces, neither of which will break any bank, but the thrill is great. hope i get them, know i'll love them. buy what you like, for what you can afford, and you cant go far wrong. peace coach

Anyone fed up with the whole thing ?, by darjeeling on Jan 6, 2008 0:14:46 GMT 1, I'm tired of the frenzy and insanity around street art and think it's detrimental to be honest --- but I'd hardly take it out on POW. Sure they're making money but because of them I'm also a couple thousand quid richer too. And what other solution is there for them?

Anyone fed up with the whole thing ?, by Francis on Jan 6, 2008 0:25:27 GMT 1, If it stresses you out and makes you unhappy, perhaps collecting art is not for you. Also, there's more out there than POW and Banksy. Perhaps you should collect Dan McCarthy.

Anyone fed up with the whole thing ?, by sm on Jan 6, 2008 1:15:27 GMT 1, sounds like your buying for all the wrong reasons. if your just looking for a nest egg then sure your going to get burnt out and jaded. buy something that makes you smile or feel something, anything! and it's worth all the hassle.

Take some fucking interest in art and you wouldn't be fed up with anything. you'd probably lighten up!

Anyone fed up with the whole thing ?, by beau on Jan 6, 2008 10:23:03 GMT 1, Why do people have to talk about the art market like it's the stock market? It's only the greedy - or business people (slightly dif ball game) who are in it for the buck and rising prices and have gotten burnt or missed out on a release that talk like this.
Sure the money side of it can make it addictive and somewhat cut throat - it's the limited release and competitive nature that hooks so many people
This forum is a great place for like minded people to share some great insights and help each other out and appreciate what they are passionate about
None of 'US' (not talking about you carpet bagging dirty flipping lurkers trying to gleam a few grains of inside info c**ts) ... None of 'us' got in this initially for the money, the works stir something in us and we love it
Only the individual is to blame if you get into the whole F5 panic buying thing - am i blaming you cos i did in 10 pints a bottle of gin and a couple bags last night and now i feel like s**t today...? no i blame myself i had a good time and i made a choice - deal with it. And dont clump everyone together and bring em down cos you're feelin bitter and twisted and angry at the world.
This forum rocks, some top guys on here.
HAPPY NEW YEAR f**kERS!
some pretty lucid thoughts here i reckon considering the consumption and sleep rate! get in!

If people only buy and sell art here, can that qualify as a 'movement'? Thats just called shopping isn't it?. Hopefully they do more than that. A movement needs a shared set of ideals doesn't it ?
Always up for a bit of debate.

Sorry, yes i agree, thats what i was thinking, i should have wrote all my thoughts down. I do think some people are very narrow minded here as far as the movement goes. I'm sick of hearing words like fad, faze and so on. Do people not realise this movement is here to say and can only get bigger and bigger. This movement is here to stay. We dont need mainstream galleries to catch onto it. Artists, curators, academics, collectors who are involved in the movement create their own structures, galleries, theories and the cogs turn.

Most the other threads are right - It's not all about POW!!
There's loads of other great artists out there - if only you stopped being narrow minded and looked. But - you possibly won't buy them -because you're not going to make a profit out of them in 0.2 seconds after selling out.

Anyone fed up with the whole thing ?, by tintin on Jan 6, 2008 17:17:54 GMT 1, Sorry, but is anyone just a little fed up with all of this ? And like a lot of us, I wonder how much we appreciated art before all of this - and maybe after discovering this elite gentlemens group, we all feel a little better and hope that we too can 'make it' like Banksy in some way ..... well I'm sorry to be negative, but I'm done with all this s**t - slag me down all you want and continue to collude with each other and once a year, break away to abuse your credit card and feather POW's nest ... but here's one less bit of competition for you .... happy new year
Sadly I think you think like a lot of members here (not all by a long shot, but many) too many here just chasing the 'next big thing', too many not knowing what they're doing and buying pretty much everything, then being disappointed because it didn't double in value overnight etc, and it's a shame because it tarnishes the scene/experience for others.
On the upside, there's plenty more fish in the sea apart from POW, and I know it's boring because we've all heard it a million times before, but buy what you like and can afford, then you'll be happy.
