Can you have too many Banksy prints?, by snakes on Jan 9, 2008 0:17:09 GMT 1, Just a thought.
I have 4 Banksy prints (HMV, MQ, TM & Trolleys) in my living room together with a Mantis Evolution, an Amps Walrus Boy, Eine Elton (dark) and 2 inks by an unknown Kiwi together with a canvas by George Ioanou.
I have no other Banksy's up in my gaff other than in the living room although i must admit to having my framed trolleys on the floor by my desk which i can alternate with trolleys from time to time.
Would too many pictures by one artist be overkill and detract from the overall?
Is less sometimes better in that one picture is more likely to draw you in than a collective?
I like the variety i suppose of many hands but just was curious as to how others felt.
Are most people really buying as of late for their portfolios and keeping them under the bed to gather dusk and to escalate in price?
Do you ever get bored of your banksy prints or can you see them being on your walls for years to come?
THanks for your time to read this and also hopefully for your views.

Can you have too many Banksy prints?, by spanksy on Jan 9, 2008 0:25:08 GMT 1, some interesting questions there snakes. i think that as long as banksy keeps producing work at such a high level, and as long as the prints that you buy are the ones you like (not just as they are banksys) then i dont see why it would ever be a bad thing. about the portfolios i think that this is becoming more and more common as people are buying more than they can fit on their walls. there is so much good art out there at good prices that people just buy buy buy, i myself have a small portfolio but try to keep as much on my wall as i can. another point to add about the banksys and portfolio is that the prints are so valuable the cost of professional framing is quite alot so saving up is needed, and many people dont get them up on their wall for fear of damaging. a backlog of prints can therefore be created. just my opinion of course.

i must admit however that 3 of the Banksy's are not strictly cosher (ie. they came via the backdoor) as i could simply not afford to spend the sort of money required for the real deal..

A slight edit of your post spanksy but the above i well and truly understand as i have seen some bloody butcher jobs done to prints by sub standard framing and in some of these instances it was done by so called 'expert framers'.

Can you have too many Banksy prints?, by victorwilliams on Jan 9, 2008 0:41:09 GMT 1, In my opinion what ever artist you have hanging on your wall you must give that piece room to breath. I cringe a little when I see pictures of peoples walls covered from top to bottom in prints not my bag at all.
Having said that though I'm also not a fan of stocking up prints in a portfolio. I have framed prints littered all over the house but I've never had more that three hanging in any one room.

Can you have too many Banksy prints?, by top on Jan 9, 2008 0:54:36 GMT 1, Interesting thread.. wonder what percentage of Banksy's make it up onto the wall? those that dont, is it due to monetary constraints re framing / fear of damage or hiding away in portfolios til its trebled in value but not seen its owner or been gazed upon lovingly..
know i'm reiterating, but got to think about this, especially if people have a few of them (lucky b'stards!)
I would give them priority until I got bored with it (..how would I know!) I suppose, unless it was GWB!!! ..I would not sell a canvas, not because it is worth ex-thousand pounds, but would part with a print of Banky's no probs once i was bored..
I am going to bed now as I dont have a Banksy and therefore ought not to pretend or imagine what I would do if I had one on my wall!! pure drivel by me..

Can you have too many Banksy prints?, by themightyreds on Jan 9, 2008 1:05:07 GMT 1, Got one Banksy in my front room and i can see it being there permanently for sure.
Got a couple of others stashed waiting for funds to allow framing and they will go into another room together with ideally a third to make that room a 3-Banksy one. Not worried about overkill as i think they'll make a great set, especially when all framed the same way.
Also got a set of 6 framed Pearl Jam poster prints in a row along my hallway that make a great set - possibly overkill but i can always rotate the order if i get a bit bored with how they look. Same will apply for the Banksy prints - get them all framed the same way and i can re-position every now and then if i star to get bored of them where they are hanging.

ie. lounge = Banksy & street art ish bedroom = george ioanou and pop art / scar face ish. kitchen = dolk ect etc

Can you have too many Banksy prints?, by slowmo on Jan 9, 2008 9:57:27 GMT 1, I am of the consenus that if you bought the print for the love of it, then it will sit on your wall for a long time or until it is traded for an image you want even more. I have Four Banksy's on the wall, one in a portfolio waiting to be traded. Flag is going further and further down the pecking order and could well lose it's frame soon. The rest are spread around the house.
Interestingly a new years resolution has been to acquire far less street art/ stencil related stuff as I have enough of it and want to mix it with other contemporary styles. I have a Gary Hume that will be framed up soon which will take the place of a faile, I am also looking at a number of other people to try and get a more balanced look rather than the current OCD for all things street look going on.

Can you have too many Banksy prints?, by craigf on Jan 9, 2008 9:58:45 GMT 1, I like the idea of themed rooms!
I have a few Banksy's hung in my house, but in my lounge I have a Jamie Hewlett, Dan Baldwin, Adam Neate, two Micallef's and a Static canvas. I like the variation, but they generally complement each other well ;D

Can you have too many Banksy prints?, by ROLLINS on Jan 9, 2008 10:02:56 GMT 1, I've got 4 Banksy's in my front room (with GS and MQ to hang) 3 Dface's in my bedroom, 4 Obey's in the second bedroom, A Jamie Hewlett "Dirt Bike" and Banksy " soup cans" in the kitchen.
You can only have too many if you think you have too many.
I've still got 2 Sickboy's, another Dface and various other stuff to go up somewhere about the house - oopps!

Can you have too many Banksy prints?, by jonpud on Jan 9, 2008 10:21:14 GMT 1, You've only got too many if you have run out of wall space!! On my walls I have I have 12 Jamie Reids, 6 Banksy's, 4 Micallef's, 1 Nick Walker, and a Never work canvas on the way, a Jeff Aerosol Canvas on the way, 3 Lupa prints, an original Nick Walker and hopefully soon another Banksy. (So much for my New Year's resolution of no new art this year!!) I also have around 50 other prints that I have no wall space for which includes, Trolleys and Napalm, so I have at this point too many Banksy's, therefore it is my intention to move to a bigger house with more wall space!!!!!!!

I know it's been asked before, but I too have got to the stage where I can't immediately afford framing costs so want to get a portfolio for safe keeping. What shops, websites can I order one from, what sort of sleeves do you need so as you don't damage the print and what size? Am I right in thinking that A1 will do for standard size prints and A0 for something like GIWTBB or any of the large Micallefs? Ta very much

Very interesting Snakes I some times wonder the same about another artist I have on my walls. I have often thought that maybe I should mix and match artist opposed to having the same artist work all in one room but to be honest the pieces are all very different and what I have on my walls I like and I like them there and they all get serious eye time apart from one which is always behind where I sit.
I have in the past got board of certain pieces and put them away but after a while I quite look fwd to putting them up again. So if you donโt have the space to have on your walls nothing wrong with alternating, keeps things alive

Can you have too many Banksy prints?, by pezlow on Jan 10, 2008 15:25:57 GMT 1, The trick is to employ a rotation policy. I have a few framed pieces squirreled away (not banksys before anyone asks). Eventually I will get round to hanging them again and the fact that I won't have seen them for a couple of years will make them seem like buying a new piece of art again.
That being said I buy WAY WAY too much and have to be more selective and less compulsive... I find it hard though because I am definitely addicted...

Can you have too many Banksy prints?, by Andy'77 on Jan 10, 2008 15:42:27 GMT 1, I try and get pieces that go together so often have a couple of prints by the same artist on the same wall, but not sure about taking up 2 walls in the same room with the same artist.
For instance In the lounge I've got J&J and Grannies on the same wall.
Then two failes and two D*Faces on one wall in the hall.
5 Kozyndans on another wall in the hall but they are all panoramic and so almost need to go together.
In the bedroom I've two Lucy M's on one wall and two more Kozyndans on another.
I think a nice mix of numerous artists is good. Maybe 4 or 5 prints max by the same artist in the house would work for me.
