Banksy #2 Anti-Icon?, by Cocteau 101 on Jan 3, 2008 23:52:58 GMT 1, The Banksy backlash begins. Obvious really as a lot of people people are looking at these images years after they were originally executed. Also when you can buy a Queen Vic canvas for ยฃ40 from some dodgy Banksy-like- art website it is understandable that many will think Banksy "uncool".
Shame but the way it goes.

Banksy #2 Anti-Icon?, by robinbanks on Jan 4, 2008 0:04:19 GMT 1, He was also included on some other list about artists who contribute little or nothing to the art world - which is probably more relevant than some jumped up lads mag - I think Julian Opie was on there too.
I'm pretty confident that the people who compile these lists have little or no influence on the contemporary artists who go on to claim a place in art history - so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Agreed mate, just such a shame when cretins produce these lists.

Banksy #2 Anti-Icon?, by solar77 on Jan 4, 2008 0:17:47 GMT 1, When will this stock line of garbage news-text stop being used?!??
"Banksy, the graffiti artist who counts Angelina Jolie and Jude Law among his fans."
I think they forgot to mention Brad Pitt.

Banksy #2 Anti-Icon?, by sm on Jan 4, 2008 12:06:39 GMT 1, who reads that piece of crap anyway.
These polls are always skewed so that people who don't deserve to make the list get on it so that the press have something to comment on which in turn helps boost sales. They probably had a question regarding modern artists, and who does the average Joe know by name, only Banksy or Warhol. It all means nothing and is a waste of ink.
As long as you buy art that you love and want on you wall what difference does it make what people think anyway.

Banksy #2 Anti-Icon?, by colonelkurtz on Jan 4, 2008 18:31:38 GMT 1, "Gay policeman kissing passes for caustic social commentary".... he produced that in the days when the middle and upper prejudice classes where having issues with the possiblity of a non hetrosexual nicking them for tax avoidance.
It was a timely piece of egg in your face for all those gay haters.
This can only be written for muppets by muppets.
Last time i buy Arena (don't think i ever have anyway!)
