Damaged hand-finished prints from POW, by Francis on Dec 11, 2007 20:17:38 GMT 1, I have to knock on some rare wood after posting this...but we all know that a high percentage of prints shipped from POW arrives damaged...what happens if a hand-finished piece such as a Faile or BAST arrives damaged? What will the resolution be? Surely they can't have back-ups of hand-finished pieces just sitting around to exchange for us?

Presumably they print and finish an overrun. So if historically an average of, say, 5% of prints were returned damaged for exchange, they'd probably print a 10% overrun as backup.

Damaged hand-finished prints from POW, by bonesy on Dec 11, 2007 20:32:36 GMT 1, Very good question....... and my estimate would be much more than 5%-10% have been damaged lately. If there are extras produced and embellished already it really is a huge waste of the artists time, all because POW cant take the extra $1.50 and 30 seconds to wrap a print in kraft paper and invest in decent tubes.
Shipping the prints as carelessly as they do is disrespectful to the artsits and their talents IMO. "Banksy, sign these extra 50 as we usually damage a bunch by carelessly shoving foam into the ends of our .50 cent tubes. We'll call you if we need you to come by and sign some more."

I highly doubt that more than 5% have been damaged in transit lately.
Based on the high numbers of prints that PoW send, they obviously take a similar approach to some larger fleet companies and their insurance. ie. It's cheaper to lose/damage a few cars than it is to comprehensively insure them all. In the case of PoW, it's cheaper to use a low cost tube and paper, and cheap parcel service.. and replace a low percentage of prints, than it is to offer a higher quality packing and posting service.

Damaged hand-finished prints from POW, by bonesy on Dec 12, 2007 0:24:47 GMT 1, Im on a few message boards with mostly US members and I would say over 25% of things coming into the US from POW are damaged lately.
They do. But neither Aiko or Bast are members of Faile (and Aiko isnt a boy)
